Greek Easter at Anassa

Cyprus chapelEaster in Greece takes place this weekend and Cyprus’ Anassa Hotel  has a full programme of events to celebrate the most important date in the Greek Orthodox Church calendar. On Good Friday, the evening service at the local chapel quietly remembers Christ’s crucifixion and on Saturday you’ll get to gather around a traditional bonfire, which is lit as the  midnight church service begins. Before retiring to bed everyone will partake in a traditional bowl of “Magiritsa” soup.  Easter Sunday is set aside for further celebrations – after a morning service, a traditional Easter lunch with live Greek music is served offering delicacies such as Lamb Souvla and Flaounes, a delicious Cypriot pastry filled with cheese.
