Here, Southwestern flavours prevail throughout the menu, whether it be buffalo carpaccio on roasted crostini or wild Alaskan salmon tostada with a tequila vinaigrette. The best tables go quickly on a first come first serve basis, so be prepared!

    Cuban flavour meets Miami style

Category: Florida, North America, Regions, USA — Paul Johnson @ 6:01 pm

The newly opened Havana Nines store in Miami’s Aventura Mall mixes the glamour and suaveness of Cuba with the Miami luxe lifestyle. It’s tropical yet contemporary, just like the décor: espresso wood, crisp white lines and just a few palm trees. If you’re in the area, drop by to admire their linen shirts in bright shades and basic neutrals, with touches of classic embroidery.

Eagle’s Eye Restaurant at Golden, BC

Category: Accommodation, Canada, Going Out, North America, Regions, Resorts, Restaurants — Paul Johnson @ 1:40 pm

Here’s a restaurant with a difference.  Diners can arrive by a 15-minute gondola ride some 7,700 feet above sea level.  Unsurprisingly, the views are to die for with the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies visible on the horizon. This is Eagle’s Eye Restaurant at the Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, British Columbia.  It’s led by Alain Soret who brings French flavours to locally-sourced produce such as wild BC sockeye salmon, as well as game and other delicacies that will get your mouth watering. Request a fireside table to make your evening extra special.

Your preferred bedding, be it in a hotel or at home?

Category: Travel Miscellany — Paul Johnson @ 11:37 pm

What’s your preferred choice of bedding?  If you’ve stayed in a number of luxury hotels, you will know that the quality of bedding can make an enormous difference.  And much of it is all about threadcount.  The finer the thread used, then the more you can pack into a square inch.  Whether it be Frette, Pratesi, Anichini or similar, you’ll pay a lot more but you’ll also notice the difference.  What’s your preference?
