Thanks Kay - I am hoping to visit Jordan and Petra has always been top of my list - really want to see the rose city - think it always looks spectacular in pictures, but i will now investigate Jerash on your recommendation sounds interesting a little bit different.

I used to visit Jordan regularly on business and enjoyed much about the country. I spent almost all of my time in the capital, Amman, but in 1993 I decided to take a week out to explore further.

Aqaba is great for divers, (I don't dive, but had a nice break there anyway).

There are many amazing historical sites to see. People always tend to think of Petra as the must-see, and it is indeed spectacular. The Treasury at Petra was even featured in the film the Temple of Doom.

Petra is certainly not to be missed, but the interest in it seems to put another amazing place, Jerash, in the shade. You can visit Jerash and step back in time. I'm not sure why Jerash doesn't get the same attention as Petra as it is definitely worth visiting if you're in Jordan.
