  1. Paul,
Having followed Joe Hunkins @joeduck for a few months and reading almost zero travel related Tweets, I would question his inclusion in the list. Even his blog has very little to do with travel.
That said, what is the point. The rush for followers is bring a great swathe of MLM’ers, pyramid follow spammers, and “become a Millionaire in your sleep” Tweeters. It is making Twitter a real pain.
I can’t wait for Google Wave, at least until the same crowd follow the traffic there.

  2. Yes, fair point about @joeduck – I need to look at that again next update. Twitter is indeed swamped with MLMers and spam but then so too is the rest of the Web. Hopefully tighter controls will limit its impact in the future.

I appreciate the point also that the number of followers doesn’t necessarily mean all that much, but at the same time there’s clearly interest in the subject as when I produced these lists, they have been re-tweeted more than most other posts on here. Maybe that says more about the other material I’m posting!!!

I hadn’t heard of Google Wave – thanks for bringing that to my attention. I am not entirely clear on how it all works yet, but I guess that will become clearer when it is released.

    Paul

  3. I can’t say I’ve given it an awful lot of thought but that’s a possibility, yes.

I seem to also remember reading – a good while back – that posts with titles such as “The 5 best hotels in New York” or “The top 10 restaurants in London” were the kinds of posts that did well on Digg. For whatever reason, people seem to like ‘lists’ and they maybe have a great tendancy to be viral be dugg a lot. Presumably the same is true when it comes to re-tweeting, so maybe that’s a factor with these posts also.

  4. It is amazing how many companies have started to tweet. You can receive tweets on airlines, weather, traffic and much more. For many, at your fingertips.

  5. i wonder what the list looks like now with the onslaught of som many companies now with twitter accounts.
