Le Chardon Mountain Lodges – Val d’Isere

Val d’Isère renowned as one of the most luxurious ski resorts in the Alps. Having just returned from the resort, I can see why it is so popular. I stayed at Le Chardon Mountain Lodges in Val d’Isère; a brilliant location set in a truly picture postcard setting high above the main town. The transfer is long (approximately 3 hours from Geneva airport) but once you arrive all that is forgotten. You are made to feel most welcomed with cosy slippers being provided along with a glass of chilled Champagne and the most wonderful canapés. The food is amazing – scrumptious 5 course dinners each evening along with breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea which is also included during your stay. Each lodge has breathtaking views overlooking the valleys which are all completely covered in snow! They also have the option of a ski in / ski out right from your lodge… perfect! With over 300km of marked runs and unlimited off piste skiing, the resort is ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all levels (including complete beginners such as myself!) The centre of Val d’Isère is only a short drive or walk away and is a typical ski resort offering restaurants, bars and shops. It is a lovely, cosy resort which has retained its historic and traditional village feel. My trip to Le Chardon was inspirational and I would definitely recommend staying there this ski season. 1. What you’ve just explained means a lot to the professionals who want to get rid of the routine hassle-filled days. The only seemingly weakpoint is the long transfer, which I believe could be the most fascinating part if the weather is nice and the vehicle is perfectly prepared for a wonderful ride on the countryside.

  2. I’d like to second Naomi’s rave review of Le Chardon Mountain Lodges. The properties and service levele are 2nd to none in Val d’Isere in my opinion.

I also wanted to tell readers that they can reduce the transfer time to Val d’Isere by over an hour by flying to Chambery airport than Geneva.

Flights are available from Gatwick and Stansted to Chambery as well as regional airports.

  3. Just emailed my sister the link to this, she loves going on ski holidays, there is so much choice now for this type of holiday and I feel it’s becoming more popular. The 5 course dinners could be a deal breaker!

  4. Nice recommendation, still never been skiing in France and everybody raves about Val dÂ’Isere.

  5. How could you possibly eat 5 courses every night? There would be no skiing for me if I consumed that, I would be rolling down the slopes haha

  6. Ha ha so true! Although my favourite chalets are always the ones that put on a nice selection of cake for when you return in from the cold!
