Mystic River Resort – a jungle B&B in Belize

Mystic River Resort proves that you can have an expansive property without losing the feel of a B&B. The owners, Tom & Nadege, are active in every aspect of the experience, desiring to know as much as possible about their guests before they arrive to provide as personalized a stay as possible. They make every effort to share meals with guests and to be as involved as they can with making sure people feel comfortable coming, staying, and going. Quality is of top concern. While the resort has only been in open since December 2008, this year it received a Travellers’ Choice Award and Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. My favorite moment at Mystic River was the proximity of the toucans. While I saw wildlife throughout my time in Belize, that was the closest I got to the symbol of the country. On my horseback riding trip, I met Tom at the vista of the property, where he showed me a spot that will soon be excavated for Maya ruins. There are a lot of hidden stories throughout the property that you are sure to find if you just ask. With much fewer rooms than other properties, you are guaranteed to have a more individualized stay, under the wing of a couple that wants their guests to stay in touch. If you’re the type who prefers an inn to a hotel, Mystic River is your best bet in the Cayo District of Belize. Roni Weiss is Author of The Official Roni Weiss Blog.
