The world’s highest commercial bungy jump

Around 200 km to the west of Port Elizabeth, South Africa lies an attraction without comparison – the world’s highest commercial bungy jump at Bloukrans bridge. ‘Adrenaline pumping’ and ‘exhilarating’ are two expressions often used to describe the ultimate in bungy experiences, along with a few understandable choice expletives when conquering this monster of a dive. Situated on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape, Bloukrans has played host to bungy jumping since 1997 and can boast an impressive list of people who have taken the plunge into the depths below – Prince Harry and Jack Osbourne to name a few, along with inserts on well known TV shows such as ‘The Amazing Race’ and ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’. Visitors venture onto the bridge walkway before being guided through what lies ahead of them by the experienced staff who will assure you of their 100% safety record before strapping you in for the 216 metre dive into the tree and river filled gorge below.

The surrounding coastal areas of Plettenberg bay, Knysna and Jeffrey’s Bay are superb locations to base yourself on the visit to Storm’s River and with the world renowned Tsitsikama Forest on the doorstep , this beautiful Garden Route area of South Africa is often mentioned as one of the top parts of this vast country to visit. 1. Awesome. This place looks incredible.

I would note, however, that this is the world’s highest commercial BRIDGE bungy jump, not the highest of any category – the Macau Sky Tower has had a higher one for a few years now. The videos of jumps from that are just as terrifying though so the matter of a few metres shouldn’t really impact!

  2. That’s just horrible!! I’ve spent a long time battling a fear of heights and recently in Argentina I got bullied into doing a bungy jump about a quarter of the height of this one. I came away with a renewed fear of heights, a bizarre hatred of bridges, a desire to never again step (or jump) outside my comfort zone, some hideous photos and a strong conviction that anyone who says ‘bungy jumping is the best thing ever!’ is a liar. But then, that might be the jealousy talking!! Full respect to anyone who has even considered doing this!!

  3. Well… congratulations on doing a bungee jump if you’ve had a fear of height, even if you were coerced into it! I’ve never done a bungee jump, don’t have a particular fear of heights, but not too sure that it’s something that particularly appeals…

  4. I want to do the worlds heighest bungee jump, I’m terrified of heights but really want to do a bungee jump so if I’m going to do it I want to do the biggest one there is!
