Could our passport photos one day be in 3D?

Remember those days when you used to have to go and find a photo booth to get your passport photo done? †I suspect that most people probably do them on their home PC nowadays, but those photo booths still exist. † But in Japan they’re busy taking them to the next level. Technology is moving so fast that there’s now actually a photo booth that produces a 3D model of you, not just a boring strip of 4 or 5 2D images.

If you happen to be in Japan and want to test drive this incredible machine and get a model of yourself, you can do so via the Omote 3D website. You can pick from 3 sizes – small (10cm), medium (15cm) or large (20cm), priced at 21,000 yen, 32,000 yen and 42,000 yen, respectively.

That means they start at around $260 a throw, so perhaps it’ll be a while before the new technology becomes commonplace!
