Monterosso Lemon Festival, Liguria

Head for the tiny Cinque Terre village of Monterosso this Spring for an annual festival dedicated to the locally grown lemon. During the Monterosso Lemon Festival, which takes place on the third Saturday in May, the village is covered in thousands upon thousands of lemons. Shop windows are decorated with them and a contest is held for the biggest lemon. You can also sample the local produce through stalls selling lemonade, limoncello, lemon ice cream and lemon pies, all topped off with a party in the central piazza in the evening. 1. I would love to be there.a couple of years ago I stayed at a lovely little family run hotel which overlooked the town and sea. Gorgeous but not as gorgeous as the lemon marmalade made by the owner’s wife from their home grown fruit. It was not finely cut marmalade. I think the whole fruit had been pulped. It was delicious and I would love the recipe.
