4 ways to make a splash at the 2013 Rio Boat Show!

Every year, the rich and famous of Brazil and beyond, gather on the shores of Rio de Janeiro to take part in the largest sailing event in South America. This international boating show runs from 25th April until 1st May this year, with thousands of visitors expected to attend the showcase. This year, for the first time ever, the American National Marine Manufacturers Association will host their own pavilion area at the International Boat Show, with 16 American companies showcasing their boats and services at the event. If you’re in Rio de Janeiro at the same time as this luxury nautical gathering, don’t miss out on these true Brazilian treats: Travel on the Rio cable car If the hustle and bustle of the Boat Show gets too much for you – or you need to escape the temptation to spend all of your savings on a new luxury yacht – watch the city from afar on the Sugar Loaf Mountain cable car, as you travel through the air between the mountain and Praia Vermelha. Rio cable car Drink caipirinhas on the beach Make like a local and enjoy a refreshing caipirinha, the well-known and national drink of Brazil – with the Cariocas on Copacabana or Ipanema beach, a short drive away from the event. With the sea and sand inviting you in, you’ll feel like the guest of honour at your own private nautical festival. Caipirinhar Visit Christ the Redeemer A bit further away in the Tijuca Forest National Park, the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer – or Cristo Redentor to the Brazilians – sits atop the Corcovado mountain, and those who climb to the top are treated to a majestic panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro. Christ the Redeemer Treat yourself to some retail therapy If the thought of splashing your cash on a yacht or boat has set your mind racing, there are plenty of places in Rio de Janeiro to go shopping. Luxury boutiques line the streets of the city, and Brazilian designers are a must in the wardrobe of any fashion conscious visitor.
