Where are the best places to visit in Autumn?

For many destinations, Autumn is by far the best time of year to visit. Take the Middle East, for example; the temperatures during the day decrease to a more comfortable level, making Oman with its rugged coastline and Abu Dhabi with its glamorous hotels and beach-resorts ideal for the Autumn months.

The Caribbean is also delightful at this time of year. Temperatures are warm yet the beaches tend to be quieter. For indulgent pampering and tranquillity before the hectic festive season is upon us, Caribbean hotels are the epitome of relaxation and many offer exceptional savings before the peak winter period begins. To ensure your festive break is less stressful, you could start your Christmas shopping early and in style with a trip to New York. Or why not combine the two?

For an Autumn alternative a little closer to home, head to the Adriatic which, after a scorching summer, can be warm enough to swim in into late October. Andalucía in southern Spain, Montenegro and Croatia are all perfect destinations at this time of year to enjoy soaking up the remnants of Europe’s summer, boasting glittering coastlines and cosmopolitan cafes.

The distinguished souks and boutiques of Marrakech offer immersive shopping experiences. The weather here will be lovely and cool in the evenings and sunny and relaxing during the day, making it the ideal time for an adventure to the foothills of the dramatic and breathtaking Atlas Mountains. Alternatively, if you only have time for a short city break, then northern Europe’s cultural cities are superb. In summer sightseeing in the heat and the crowds can be stifling, but in autumn places such as Florence, Venice, Budapest or Prague see the crowds disappear and are wonderfully cool and calm. You may even catch the 55th Biennale in Venice, the global exhibition of contemporary art running until 24th November 2013.
