Photograph of the week: Shaft of light on a 1,000 year old Buddha in Burma

This photograph was taken at Bagan, Burma. At the right time of the day the light streams through this window and onto the heart of this 1,000 year old Buddha. Compassion is a central precept of Buddhism. A filter was employed to prolong the exposure, in this case 3 seconds. Bagan and its 4,000 temples (once 13,000 before being destroyed by Kublai Khan and his Mongols in 1287) is widely considered one of the great archaeological sites of the world. 1,000 year old Buddha in Burma Thank you to Aung Pyae Soe of Luminous Journeys for permission to re-produce the image. 1. Wow, this is an incredible photo of a very special place. I would like to go there and shoot both photo and video, because I think that video will be awesome too.
