Madagascar’s most idyllic and luxurious lodges

MadagascarÂ’s tourism industry may well be the smallest of the Indian Ocean islands, but in this we find exclusiveness like no where else in the Indian Ocean. With is location off the southeast coast of Africa, there is a distinct ocean and Africa mix that speaks of a magical place. The good news is that, because Madagascar has not yet been branded as a mass tourism destination, an authentic experience awaits. Madagascar is appreciated for its unique biodiversity, and this is one of the key driving forces in the countryÂ’s eco-tourism development. Lemurs aside, Madagascar offers splendid beaches, delicious food and an intriguing and rich culture. And the best news? The countryÂ’s tourism may be considered underdeveloped for the mass market, but this has not kept luxury away. Madagascar is home to some of AfricaÂ’s top luxury lodges.

HereÂ’s where to find the best of idyllic and luxury in this Indian Ocean gem:

5. Masoala Forest Lodge

The prestigious Masoala Forest Lodge is an ecolodge of luxurious standard. Located on the wild north-east coast of Madagascar, Masoala is only accessible via boat. This is a true adventure experience with accommodation offered in luxury safari tents with wooden decks. 1. So great to see Madagascar getting some coverage for the special, authentic and certainly not MASS travel experiences the industry there has worked hard to cultivate. Tsara Komba looks magical!

  2. Going to Anjajavy L’Hotel over New Year’s Eve for 6 nights. This list is intriguing, but air con limited us to Anjajavy–since the other lodge rooms/suites do not have air con as far as I can tell. I’m surprised Anjajavy is listed as No. 4, considering the number of reviews on both flyertalk and tripadvisor who have stayed at many of these which suggest that Anjajavy is the most luxe of the lodges in Madagascar.
