Top tips for the perfect holiday house party with friends

Who doesn’t love a party? And I’m pretty sure anyone reading A Luxury Travel Blog likes travel as well… A growing segment of the upward trend in private vacation rentals is down to group travel for friends and families looking for that special place to celebrate that special occasion – or simply any excuse for a party! Cortijo El Carligto, Spain How to choose the perfect place This will of course involve a fair amount of personal taste and depend on the nature of your event. A family reunion with grandma and grandpa (as well as children) in attendance will surely entail a different set of requirements from that of a hen party or group of intimate friends. You’ll naturally want to consider the location of the rental and whether you and your guests will want to enjoy proximity to any particular attractions or local places of interest. For a stay of more than a few days maybe a bit of local nightlife, beaches, or dare I suggest cultural attractions might be in order. But considering you will be going all that way to rent a property for your event, it only makes sense to choose a place that can keep everyone happy and entertained without too much off-site stimulus. Some crucial things to consider: 1. Privacy is key You’ll need enough space so as not to disturb anyone in the vicinity with your revelry and enough room on the property for your guests to spread out and enjoy the surroundings. Wide open spaces and imposing nature always make an impact and allow people to roam, play, take a quiet or romantic moment away from the group, and generally breathe in the open air. 2. Fierce facilities Back to the point about keeping your guests entertained, not to mention comfortable, without feeling drawn off site. In warmer climes or times (best, no?), a fabulous pool area, gardens and shady lounge areas will go a long way to making the hours fly by. Stereo and entertainment systems, hot tubs, fireplaces, indoor and outdoor games for kids (and adults), and comfortable, spacious lounge seating also all contribute to an elegant or enhanced experience. Think daybeds and hammocks overlooking aforementioned open spaces and views, mojito in hand, canapés delivered on trays… 3. Service please! Those canapés are not going to make themselves nor deliver themselves to your guests on those lush daybeds. And you won’t want to be the one churning out those laborious mojitos all day. Your private and potentially remote rental property should nonetheless include the option for staff and servers, while a private chef is all but necessary. Save the barbeque for another day and set yourself up with a top quality chef (sourced by the rental owners) for the special day. An exclusive private chef or even Michelin rated gourmand is not too much to ask. Be a guest at your own party and enlist a concierge to manage the dirty work; and speaking of dirty work, have your rental hosts send in their cleaners after the event so you can enjoy the day after without yet facing reality!
