Our favourite Winter escapes

As we ready ourselves for the coming months that require scarves, coats and central heating, we mustn’t forget that thereÂ’s plenty of winter sunshine waiting for us elsewhere. From the vibrant shores of Jamaica to the magnificent coastlines of the Florida Keys; here are a few of our favourite destinations for that perfect winter getaway. Florida Keys Whilst we ready ourselves for the cold temperatures that are already making their way to Britain, the Florida Keys will be basking under a sun that keeps its shores bright throughout the winter. These beautiful islands are the perfect choice if youÂ’re looking to escape to sunnier climes with a lively Floridian atmosphere. Here you can get close to the tranquil natural beauty of Marathon, or let yourself loose in the vibrant party spots of the bustling Key West. Whether youÂ’re taking on scuba diving journeys down to compelling shipwrecks and magnificent artificial coral reefs or kayaking the night away on the warm waters of Islamorada, one thing is for certain – you wonÂ’t need to pack a jumper. We guess thereÂ’s reason behind its “American Caribbean” nickname. Sailing in the Florida Keys Jamaica Say goodbye to that wind wrecked umbrella and kick back with a rum punch to authentic reggae beats in Jamaica. If, like us, your Caribbean adventure wonÂ’t be complete until youÂ’ve tucked into some fiery jerk chicken, then head over to Scotchies restaurant on Montego Bay for the best in local cooking. Then, to appease your inner thrill seeker, embrace the heights as you climb the incredible DunnÂ’s River Falls or soar above natural springs, banana trees and forests dangling from a zip wire. More concerned about returning home with a bronzed complexion this winter? Then simply make yourself comfy on a hammock and gently swing above the white sands of Bloody Bay. A Jamaican Beach The Philippines Dotted with spectacular beaches, the Philippines are an ideal winter escape. Whether you want to sample local delicacies or lose yourself amongst dense greenery, this Southeast Asian gem has an abundance of unspoilt landscapes just waiting to be explored. Although the Philippines often suffer with torrential rain from June to September, you can certainly expect scorching temperatures between November and April, when you can discover the rolling Chocolate Hills, swim beside turtles, and kayak to secret beaches, amongst many other things. The Chocolate Hills The British Virgin Islands For a mid-winter getaway, few places can beat the British Virgin Islands. Home to pristine beaches, secluded island retreats and world class scuba diving spots; we truly mean it when we say the BVI is the ultimate paradise. Whether itÂ’s a dinner of freshly caught lobster or tasty deep fried plantain, a day spent on the beach or in a spa; youÂ’ll quickly realise life on the BVI is slow-paced and addictive. Crack open a bottle of bubbly as you sail around these islands and soak up the rays on your own private yacht. Just spare a thought for the people back home that are in search of their warmest winter coats. The Baths of the BVI Tom Marchant is Co-founder of Black Tomato. 1. Your first sentence really sets the scene. The thought of huddling around a radiator simply does not compare to the natural warmth of sunnier climes.
