4K photography – so easy that even a child can do it!

If you’re a regular reader you’ll have seen me posting about 4K photography a few times over the last few months. If you’re new here, here’s a very quick summary – 4K photography is when you shoot in HD video, and the quality is such that you can pick out a single frame and yet the resultant image is still in high resolution. I’ve been trialling this technology with the GX8 camera from Panasonic Lumix UK lately, but decided it was time to let my children have a go with it, to hopefully prove that you don’t necessarily have to be a professional photographer to achieve some great results. We had spent the day visiting Sizergh Castle and, as you may have read, I have this year decided to take on the challenge of running 10K every day of 2016 to raise money for charity, so I decided I would run home after our visit. Outside the gardens but still on the Sizergh estate, we earmarked a muddy puddle which we thought might be a good opportunity to put my theory to the test – that even kids can achieve great shots with 4K photography. Here’s the image that my 11 year old son managed to capture. You can see part of Sizergh Castle in the background. Photograph by a 10 year old You might be forgiven for thinking that it took many attempts to achieve these images, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My eldest son did just one two-second take using the camera’s pre-burst mode which captures the second before you press the shutter and the second after, whilst my youngest did just two of these. That’s how easy it is! Remember, if you want to win one of these cameras for yourself, we currently have a competition running on the site that you can enter if you click here. 1. Wow, your son did a great job with that shot – it really captures the essence of movement. I’ve also got a Panasonic Lumix with 4K and love it
