Photograph of the week: Ostriches in the Kalahari

South Africa’s Kalahari Desert is famous for its beautiful colours at sunrise and sunset. The photographer here was following two male cheetahs on safari at Tswalu Kalahari late one afternoon when they began to hunt. Their unfortunate targets were these four young ostriches. The massive birds soon caught wind of the big cats and began to move off. Before they disappeared completely they stopped on the crest of a dune and gave us this incredible view. 1. Very nice silhouette shot Paul. It sounds like the birds made a clean getaway then. Did the cats chase them or just move in their direction?
