Top 5 honeymoon safari lodges for this Summer

An African safari is often high up on the list of options when it comes to planning a honeymoon. For the more adventurous there is always the possibility of staying at one of the tented camps, while for those seeking a more comfortable experience there is a range of luxury lodges offering some great discounts. Here we highlight where you can take advantage of those fantastic honeymoon discounts across some of the most luxurious safari lodges and camps in East and Southern Africa. From properties with incredible locations to those offering a honeymoon with a twist, all our selections aim to create that once-in-a-lifetime trip. A stay in any of them is a wonderful way to begin married life, guaranteeing incredible experiences and memories. 1. &Beyond lodges &Beyond is one of Africa’s most luxurious safari brands and has a number of lodges across East and Southern Africa. All offer a 50 per cent discount for the bride! One of our favourite lodges in the &Beyond portfolio is Crater Lodge. This property overlooks the famous Ngorongoro Crater and boasts uninterrupted views down onto the wildlife-rich crater floor. Another lodge we love is Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge. Sandibe is situated in one of the best game-viewing areas in the Okavango Delta and features private plunge pools and a butler service, making any stay here feel very exclusive indeed. Other favourites include Serengeti Under Canvas, Ngala Tented Camp and Mnemba Island. 1.&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater 2. Sand Rivers, Tanzania This camp is run by Nomad Tanzania, a company known for owning some of the finest authentic properties in Africa. Sand Rivers is true to form and offers a classic safari experience in the Selous Game Reserve, on the banks of the Rufiji River. The Selous is famous for its diversity of activities and well respected as one of Tanzania’s best destinations for walking safaris. The open-fronted suites at Sand Rivers are perfect for those who have a sense of adventure – and for the true thrillseekers, a night out fly camping is an absolute must! Honeymooners get a great deal here too, with the bride benefiting from 50 per cent off the price of your stay. 2.Sand Rivers 3. Dulini Collection, South Africa The Dulini Collection is located in South Africa’s famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve, home to one of Africa’s highest densities of the Big Five and a selection of properties with an unbeatable level of luxury. The collection consists of three lodges – Dulini Game Lodge, Dulini Leadwood Lodge and Dulini River Lodge. All offer a 50 per cent discount off the price of the bride’s stay. Our favourite is Dulini Game Lodge – the cosy feel of the accommodation and high standards of service combine to make this a top choice among our honeymoon travellers. For those wanting the ultimate in privacy, Dulini Leadwood is perfect. 3.Dulini Collection 4. Ikuka Safari Camp, Tanzania At this property, there is no honeymoon discount as such, but the camp does offer a stay-for-four-nights, pay-for-three deal throughout the year. Ikuka is a popular option among our honeymooners due to the small nature of the camp – it has just six luxurious rooms. It is a classic safari camp that is owner run and managed, ensuring a personal and private safari experience. A unique location on the Ikuka escarpment means it’s the only property in Ruaha National Park with truly breathtaking vistas over the wilderness below. 4.Ikuka Camp 5. Ol Seki Hemingways Mara, Kenya As far as honeymoon deals are concerned, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara is hard to beat! This property offers a free stay for the bride (excluding the month of August and park fees) – and when the honeymoon deal doesn’t apply, there is a stay-for-three-nights, pay-for-two deal. The camp sits in Naboisho Conservancy, bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s prime game-viewing destination. Ol Seki is certainly one of the most sophisticated camps in this part of Kenya – and it is ideal for travellers looking for a retreat-style property away from the MMNR crowds. 5.Hemingways - Ol Seki Julian Carter-Manning is a Co-founder and MD at Yellow Zebra Safaris.
