Short stay: The Rosebery Aparthotel, Clerkenwell, London, UK

When attending the World Travel Market, I stayed in a studio apartment at The Rosebery from Supercity Aparthotels. Situated on Rosebery Avenue in Clerkenwell, the accommodation is within easy walking distance of two Underground stations – Farringdon (Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines) and Chancery Lane (Central line). This meant I could get to the Excel Centre for the World Travel Market in as little as 45 minutes, but still had the convenience of the city on the doorstep for breakfast and evening appointments. Tourists will also enjoy the location, with St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tate Modern, the British Museum, Covent Garden and the theatre district all within easy reach. The welcome Due to a severe train delay, I didn’t make it to the aparthotel until around 1am. I had conveyed my late arrival in advance and was welcomed by security which runs 24/7. The assurance that I would still be able to check in despite arriving very late was comforting. Check-in also was a quick and straightforward process which was very welcome given that I just wanted to go straight to bed after a rather long day! The room The room is open plan with a bedroom with a desk in one corner, all separated by a glass partition from a kitchen, dining and lounge area. Although I sleep well pretty much anywhere, I have to say the bed was super-comfortable and the blinds in the room are effective in blocking out early morning daylight. A Bush docking station enables you to play your own music should you wish and a ‘handy’ htc is available as a free travel companion for the duration of your stay. There is a wall-mounted control panel from where you can control the apartment’s lighting and heating, as well the intercom entry system, and it also provides you with access to how things work in the room as well as local practical and tourist information. The bathroom Just off from the bedroom is a small bathroom with shower, WC and basin. Bathrobes and slippers are supplied, as are Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. The facilities The kitchen, although seemingly small, is exceptionally well-equipped. Don’t be deceived by the size – as well as the basics of a toaster, kettle and coffee maker, great use is made of the available space to include a hob as well as concealed washer/dryer, slimfit dishwasher, combined oven and microwave, and fridge, not to mention the provision of pots and pans, crockery, cutlery and so on. Other nice touches Other nice touches in the apartment include the provision of a bottle of Prosecco and milk in the fridge, as well as cereals, crisps, fruit and biscuits, plus a selection of magazines. Also provided is an in-room spa menu, thanks to a partnership with urbanmassage.com Cost Prices start from around £150 per night for a Studio apartment such as the one I stayed in. The best bit The convenience of a centrally located apartment where I could come and go as I please, with no interruptions from room service – and the facilities to cook my own meals if I wanted – made this ideal for a solo business trip. I enjoyed both the privacy and the quality of the accommodation. The final verdict Although ideal for whilst I was conducting business in the city, I can also see how this would be a great base for tourists, particularly for longer stays when you might not always want to eat out.
