Heritage Le Telfair in Domaine de Bel Ombre, south Mauritius has just launched an all new Gourmet Bliss offer for guests staying on a half board basis at the luxury golf and spa resort between February and September 2012. To the delight of foodies and gastro-holiday lovers, the offer can be used for dinner at seven differently themed restaurants across the Domaine de Bel Ombre area for a supplement of just £55 per day per adult and just £27.50 for children under 12.

Gourmet Bliss is valid throughout the day and includes lunch at six restaurants, all drinks including champagne and selected wines, afternoon tea, snacks and even gourmet picnic baskets for tours of the unspoiled, mountainous landscape in the south of the island.

Cuisine is an important part of Mauritian culture which includes French, British, Creole and Asian influences and as such, this offer has been designed for guests to enjoy this varied and rich culinary offering across the Domaine de Bel Ombre. From Mauritian fusion in an elegant 19th century mansion to barefoot chic dining overlooking the ocean, Gourmet Bliss allows guests to enjoy some of the island’s very best gastronomy.

Some of the most memorable dinners take place at Annabella’s, the main restaurant at Heritage Le Telfair. The classic French brasserie style menu includes classic Gallic fare such as venison terrine with pear and apricot or duck confit with ragout. There is also a varied children’s menu available for inclusive family dining and from the large terrace an exceptional view of the Citronniers River as it flows through the resort to the Indian Ocean.

Pan-Asian cuisine at Heritage Le Telfair’s Gin’ja restaurant is a must do experience. From sushi and teppanyaki to noodle and rice dishes, the modern lifestyle restaurant set on a picturesque stretch of white sand beach presents the ultimate barefoot dining experience and serves the best poached lobster. A relaxed beach style service at lunchtime is replaced with a more elegant à la carte dining experience in the evening.

The Gourmet Bliss formula includes:

- Breakfast at Heritage Le Telfair’s main restaurant Annabella’s
- Lunch at one of six restaurants in the Domaine de Bel Ombre region
- Afternoon Tea at the Cavendish Bar at Heritage Le Telfair
- Dinner at up to seven different restaurants in the Domaine de Bel Ombre
- Selected ‘ à la carte’ menu or buffet as per daily choices
- Full ‘à la carte’ menu in all 12 Domaine de Bel Ombre restaurants against food credit of 1000 rupees per person
- All drinks including beers, soft drinks, juices, selected house wines and unlimited champagne by the glass in all bars and restaurants in the Domaine de Bel Ombre
- Picnic baskets for lunch when going on excursions

Arguably as enjoyable as time on the slopes, après ski is an essential part of a luxury mountain getaway. Park City, Utah features après options of every nature, from sophisticated lounges to lively social hot spots. Here are five unique ways to unwind after a day on the slopes in Park City:

High West Distillery

The ski-in High West Distillery & Saloon, located at the bottom of Park City Mountain Resort’s Quittin’ Time ski run and a block from Main Street, is a hub of live music, friendly strangers and unique cocktails. Signature drinks are made with the house-distilled, award-winning High West Whiskey and 7000’ Vodka, spirits that extend to the saloon’s fine dining menu as well. The whiskey-infused fondue is a can’t-miss gourmet treat.

Silver Star Café

This hidden gem is tucked away from the base of Park City Mountain Resort at the mid-mountain Silver Star community, a collection of newly constructed condos and restored silver mining buildings, including the Sundance Institute headquarters. Located at the base of Silver Star chairlift, the Silver Star Café features an outdoor plaza with lounge seating, live music through the “Park City Limits” series, locally brewed Wasatch Beer and homemade alpine fare.

Mountain Terrace at St. Regis

At least once during a stay in Park City, take the funicular from Deer Valley Resort’s base to the Mountain Terrace at St. Regis Deer Valley for the sunset Champagne sabering, light gourmet fare and some quality time with friends around the Garden of Fire, an impressive outdoor fire pit that truly lives up to its name.

The Farm at Canyons Resort

Located between the base of the Orange Bubble Lift and the Red Pine Gondola, this slope-side hot spot features a locally inspired menu and enviable proximity to the Canyons Resort ski beach. Starting in late February, you can complete your evening with the Saturday Spring Concert Series, a free outdoor concert hosted on the Canyons Resort plaza.

Adolph’s Swiss Restaurant

Adolph’s pays homage to Park City’s heyday as a ski racing town, complete with old racing paraphernalia on the walls and autographed photos of everyone from Bob Theobold (father of aerial skiing and regular at the bar), to Bode Miller, who stops in now and again. Chef Adolph Imboden, a Swiss ski racer who started Adolph’s in 1974, still dons his apron to make hearty alpine fare like elk medallions and classic Wienerschnitzel. The lighter après menu boasts The Perfect Burger (it’s pretty darn close) and Swiss style raclette.

For other après staples in Park City, try the No Name Saloon on Main Street and Cena at Deer Valley Resort.

Built in the 1950s, Radisson Aruba was the very first high-rise hotel to open on the island. The renovation took nearly two years and included refurbishing all 355 guest rooms and suites of the resort, as well as its open-air lobby and reception area, meeting facilities and casino. Capitalising on its distinctive design, originally masterminded by the renowned Neo-baroque architect Morris Lapidus, Radisson’s new furniture, fixtures and facing aim to recapture the retro period from its inception.

All rooms have a brand new look with new furnishings and amenities including luxury EverNu mattresses, 42-inch plasma TVs, climate control and new bedding and linen. The hotel’s trademark Colonial West Indian four-poster, mahogany beds were also upgraded, serving as inviting centrepieces for each room and suite, with tropical-inspired art adorning the freshly painted walls.

The flagship Sunset Grille restaurant has also had an overhaul with a fresh colour scheme and furnishings. Guests can also enjoy a brand new look to the open-air Mira Solo Martini Bar, a modern, chic space that overlooks the cascading waterfall, where you can listen to the live entertainment or sample one of the 52 varieties of Martini.

Set on 15 acres with 1,500 feet of white sand beachfront, Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa is located on the island’s most famous strip, the idyllic Palm Beach, which was voted last year as No3 ‘Best beach in the world’ by TripAdvisor’s users, the world’s largest travel review site. The resort is renowned for its lush, tropical landscaping, which has been given a freshenup along with an expanded interactive aviary programme that allows guests to visit nine tropical birds living on-site (including Macaws, a Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo, African Grey Parrots, a Cuban Amazon Parrot and a Brazilian Toucan).

What comes into your mind when thinking of a holiday to Turkey? A cheap and cheerful resort by the sea, complete with neon lighted night spots similar to those found throughout the continent in places like Spain and Greece? Or a hot and sweaty experience in the streets of Istanbul? It is not clear why certain places or countries get such a reputation, but the simple fact of the matter is that Turkey is, if you want it to be, one of the most luxurious places you could ever wish to visit. Why? Well simply because the country is so vast and the destinations so diverse that you can tailor a visit to suit your exact needs and to the highest of standards.

Luxurious beaches

Forget about flying to the Caribbean to experience some of the world’s best beaches. There is really no need as Turkey has its own fair share of sandy paradises. Ovabuku beach is one of the best kept beaches in Turkey and largely free from hoards of tourists that frequent the more popular areas. Located in the Datca peninsular, Ovabuku does not have perfect white sand but it does have a secluded location, natural tranquillity and locally owned restaurants nearby which come together to create a stunning beach location. This is the perfect place to head to if you are the type of person who has not stopped for the past 6 months. Just sit back and let your worries pass you by without the sounds of screaming children or mobile phone ringtones adding to your stress levels. If you cannot access this beach, do not worry too much. There are plenty of other alternatives offering a similar experience. Gemiler and Hisaronu Bay are getting a good reputation too.

Luxurious restaurants

If you enjoy food, you will without question enjoy Turkey. Istanbul has a fantastic reputation as a food lover’s paradise and it’s not too difficult to find out why. With national dishes such as kebabs heavily featured on local menus, finding a luxurious plate of food is not difficult. If you find yourself in the bustling city of Istanbul, you will be able to find doner on most street corners, but of course this is not for everybody. Restaurants such as Kasap Osman have doner kebab making down to a tee and partly explains why getting a table is half of the challenge. Who would have thought that tucking into a doner kebab would qualify as luxurious? Forget about the take-aways we are used to back in the UK, kebabs are on another planet in Turkey.

Luxurious hotels

Do you expect five star accommodation with service to match? Turkey will not disappoint. The Marmaris Palace in Icmeler is a five star resort consisting of over 250 villa rooms all set to a backdrop of a pristine pinewood forest, along with another 177 rooms in the main building. The Didim Beach Resort in Altinkum is another five star option which is situated in one of the beautiful bays of the Aegean coast. Or maybe The Buyuk Anadolu Didim Hotel – 5-star luxury on the outskirts of Altinkum, a sandy beach and warm shallow waters right on the doorstep. Turkey really can offer the luxury traveller an experience to match any other country in the world. Of course there are cheap holidays to Turkey too, but if you want to experience secluded beaches, first class food and be pampered in stylish hotels, take a trip to Turkey and indulge yourself!

Whilst on holiday, some like to unwind by going hiking, rock climbing, or bungee jumping…however, if you are not one of these people and enjoy a less active form of relaxation, perhaps a day spa visit to one of the UK’s luxury spas would be a preferable alternative. The day spa is great for either a long country holiday or a shorter city break, and it’s the perfect activity for the romantic roam and girly getaway alike. The spa day is a thoughtful gift for a loved one, or just a way to treat yourself; go ahead, I’m sure you deserve it.

The UK has so many amazing day spas to choose from, so it really is difficult to pinpoint a few, but here are ten luxury retreats which you may want to visit.

Eden Day Spa – Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire

With a ‘five bubble’ rating in the Good Spa Guide, the Eden day spas know what they’re doing. Choose from a range of massages, wraps, pedicures, manicures, and, depending on who’s attending, a special range of treatments just for men- in your chosen country location. Individual treatments range from ten minutes to an hour and a half, and can cost between £12- £76.

SenSpa – Hampshire

SenSpa is a luxury, Thailand themed spa in the New Forest, based within a beautiful manor hotel. On top of a range of pools, saunas, steam rooms, an ice room and the usual treatments including massages, wraps, body polishes and facials, there are also special treatments for men and a ‘mother to be’ package. For day treatments prices range from £89 to £209.

Illuminata Spa – London

Claiming to reinvigorate ‘the true origins of the Roman and Greek spa’, the Illuminata looks like the perfect spa. Situated in Mayfair, it’s a great place to go for a city break. With a large selection of facial, body, make up, tanning, purifying, and express treatments, there is definitely something for everyone. Special packages include ‘bride to be’, ‘wake up call’, ‘the goddess treatment’ and ‘just for men’. Prices range roughly from £100 to £400.

Landmark Spa – London

Another central city location means you can start planning your holiday in London, including shopping trip, theatre bookings and restaurant- nicely completed with a relax in Landmark day spa. Day spa packages are aptly named ‘indulge’, ‘revive’, ‘nourish’ and ‘soothe’- and for a couple of hours treatments and lunch at prices ranging from £135 to £305, you can get a lot for your money.

The Chessgrove – Worcestershire

Set in Worcestershire, the Chessgrove is another perfect spa to visit during a country holiday. With several pools, six treatment rooms, and an outdoor spa area, you really are in charge of your own spa experience. Prices range from £95 to £250.

Champneys – Bath, Brighton, Chicester, Enfield, Guildford, Milton Keynes, St Albans and Tunbridge Wells

Wherever you plan on taking your next getaway, Champneys spas have a variety of locations for you to choose from. Champneys is well known for its luxury bathroom and toiletry products, and their own spa services keep up the good name. the ‘Spa Menu’ has a great range, from pregnancy massages to ‘finishing touch’ treatments. Price range from £18 to £18, or you could even drop by for a free Bare Escentuals make up application.

Sequoia Spa at The Grove – Hertfordshire

The Sequoia Spa is stylish and ideally set in a beautiful country estate. Packages include the ‘men’s collection’, ‘evening spa’ and ‘pre-wedding’. After enjoying your treatment, you could swim, take a walk or bike ride in the beautiful grounds and park, and in the summer you can access the walled garden to play croquet, or relax by the outdoor pool and beach.

The Vale Resort – near Cardiff

A city break in Cardiff is a great alternative to London, with so much to do. Before or after your spa treatment you could visit a museum or gallery, or take a walk round Cardiff Bay. The prices are excellent, and you can get a classic treatment of ninety minutes of your choice and lunch for £95, or a complete day with lunch for £30.

Savill Court – Surrey

Part of the Macdonald chain, these hotels never disappoint. In a great Windsor location, you could follow your spa treatment by a trip to the royal town. Spa packages start from £72.

The Scotsman Spa – Edinburgh

The Scotsman is a sleek and modern spa, set in a historic and beautiful city. Prices for an individual treatment range from £65 to £75, or you could pay for a course of six treatments for £200. Whilst you’re there, make the most of everything a holiday in Edinburgh has to offer; walk up Arthur’s Seat, take a ghost tour or visit one of the city’s many museums and galleries.

Wherever you plan to go, the UK has a great variety of day spas to visit; so you have no excuse not to enjoy a nice relax on your next holiday.

Greystoke, Mahale Mountains National Park – Western Tanzania

Located in Tanzania’s remote Mahale Mountains National Park, Nomad Tanzania’s Greystoke stakes its claim as one of the finest camps on the continent. A worthy contender for the most striking design of any camp, Greystoke sits on an idyllic beach at the bottom of a chimpanzee filled mountain range on the edge of Lake Tanganyika. Greystoke is one of Africa’s most iconic lodges. Offering an experience that of an exceptionally high quality, yet one that cannot be described as overtly luxurious, Greystoke is a camp that epitomises the adventure of African travel. Amazing sunsets and the clearest possible skies are the norm here whilst the chimpanzee viewing is the finest in Africa.

Tafika and Remote Africa’s bush camps, Luangwa Valley – Central Zambia

The Luangwa Valley is the National Park that safari enthusiasts savour the most. High quality camps, superlative guiding, high game densities and the best walking safaris in Africa tick the boxes for what, makes one safari park better than others. The company that epitomises the Luangwa valley is John Coppinger’s Remote Africa. One of the very few owner run companies left in Africa today, Tafika is Carol and John Coppinger’s home. This beautiful camp has a team of exceptional guides operating some of Africa’s finest walking safaris into the North and South Luangwa at Crocodile Camp, Chikoko and Mwaleshi.

Beho Beho, Selous Game Reserve – Southern Tanzania

Sitting up in the hills in the Northern sector of Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, Beho Beho is the first of our truly luxurious camps in the top ten. With sweeping views across the valley below, Beho Beho’s stone cottages are quite unlike any other property we work with. Individually crafted from local stone and thatch, the rooms have antique furniture and open fronts along with outside showers and a meticulous attention to finer details. Quite simply, this camp is utterly beautiful yet manages to retain that personal, unpretentious charm that Africa’s remote Wilderness areas deserve. Amazing guiding and some of the best walking anywhere, Beho Beho backs it all up with superb food and service. All of this in the Selous itself – Africa’s oldest and largest Game Reserve; a vast, beautiful area of true wilderness.

Old Mondoro, Lower Zambezi National Park – Southern Zambia

With only four rooms, Old Mondoro is one of the smallest camps to make our top ten. Situated on the banks of the Zambezi in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park, Old Mondoro looks out over an island in the middle of the Zambezi and across to Zimbabwe beyond. Striking the perfect balance of comfort and respect for such a wild and beautiful location, Old Mondoro offers some of the best boating and canoeing on the continent as well as great game drives at day and night and also superb walking. In short, this little camp offers a huge number of different activities in a stunning location.

Duba Plains, Okavango Delta – Northern Botswana

Located in the North of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Duba Plains is famous for its incredible lion and buffalo viewing. Trapped on a large island, approximately 1,200 buffalo face the daily challenge of being surrounded by one of the highest concentrations of lion anywhere in Africa. Filmed by National Geographic and made famous by Derek and Beverley Joubert’s two films, the lions of Duba have taken on an almost mythical status. The lions here are diurnal hunters and guests staying in this lovely little camp have the opportunity of witnessing these two beasts of the African savannah at their most ferocious.

Savuti Camp, Linyanti Reserve – Northern Botswana

Wilderness Safaris’ fantastic Savuti Camp is located in Botswana’s Linyanti Reserve. As with Duba Plains, Savuti Camp is located in one of Africa’s finest private reserves. Paying the high prices of Botswana’s private reserves guarantees you exclusivity; huge tracts of pristine wilderness all to yourself. Savuti sits on the banks of the Linyanti river, flowing again for the first time in 25 years. The camp has an unexplainable charm and a location in a phenomenally good game viewing area. One of the best small camps in Africa, without any doubt.

Alex Walker’s Serian, Serengeti National Park – Northern Tanzania

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is the mother of all safari parks. Justifiably famous for the mobile camps that follow the Great Migration herds throughout the year, no list of top ten camps would be complete without a Serengeti mobiles. Alex Walker’s Serengeti Serian is our pick of the bunch, especially from December through to March when the camp offers guests the opportunity of exploring the Rift Valley and untouched tribes, as well as thousands of acres of untouched short grass plains filled with the largest herds on the planet. What we love about this classic camp however is Alex’s determination to keep guests guessing about what they are going to do the next day.

Mombo Camp, Moremi Game Reserve – Northern Botswana

Generally regarded as the finest safari camp in Africa, it came as a bit of a surprise that Mombo Camp didn’t simply cruise into our top ten! Debate raged in the office about whether this camp deserved its place given that the activities from Mombo are so limited; no night driving or walking is permitted and due to the shallow flood plains, no boating is possible either. However, no one was arguing about was the sheer quality of game viewing on offer here. This is the ‘predator capital’ of Africa. And what a beautiful camp. Our conclusion: rightfully in the top ten.

The Schoeman’s Skeleton Coast Safaris – Kunene Camp, Northern Namibia

Many of Africa’s finest experiences are more basic than one might expect and the Schoeman’s Kunene Camp on the Kunene river in Northern Namibia is no exception. This camp does not offer bells, whistles and chandeliers, but a simple camp that’s located in the absolute middle of nowhere. Privately guided by one of the Schoeman brothers themselves, your hosted stay at Kunene Camp offers an experience that will genuinely take your breath away, on numerous occasions. Located on the top of a cliff directly above the Kunene river itself, Kunene camp is Africa’s most remote camp, in one of the most extraordinary locations we have ever seen.

Sasakwa and the Singita Grumeti Reserves, Serengeti National Park – Northern Tanzania

The Serengeti’s most expensive lodge, Sasakwa easily makes the top ten. The lodge is as luxurious as any we’ve ever seen, and the sheer volume of cash that is going into the Grumeti Reserve itself (courtesy of an American philanthropist/hedge fund owner) has resulted in a huge protected zone where the Great Migration and the Serengeti’s immense predator concentrations roam free. The lodge is also one of the most brilliantly run properties we have ever seen and offers a huge range of activities including riding

One of the most impressive natural wonders of Africa is the incredible Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. The Ngorongoro Crater is part of a larger conservation area that covers vast expanses of savanna grassland and highland plains that are home to a huge variety of animals and birds – many of whom are endemic to the region. The Crater itself is often referred to as “Africa’s Eden” and is a place of great scenic beauty. The Crater is a good year round game viewing destination and combines well with nearby beach destinations in Tanzania and Kenya. It also combines well with a Tanzania safari to the Serengeti, especially during the annual wildebeest migration between the months of June and December. The Crater is known for its large concentrations of predators and other nearby attractions to see including the Olduvai Gorge and the Cradle of Mankind. The accommodation at the Ngorongoro Crater is limited to preserve the natural beauty of the region and avoid huge visitor numbers associated wit mass tourism. The camps and lodges are situate don the rim of the crater and offer a great deal of privacy. The views from the guest suites are breathtaking – especially at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is set on the northern ridge of the crater and the design and architecture has been inspired by the Maasai mud and stick huts that are typical of the region. The interiors are opulent and very spacious and the central living and expansive private decks offer fabulous views over the Crater floor. The quality of guiding is excellent and activities include traditional game drives, walking safaris and cultural excursions to the local villages. The Conservation area is inhabited by about 40 000 Masai pastoralist and the interaction between man and nature in this region is one of Africa’s best examples of peaceful co-existence between humans and animals.

Located around 200km from Bangkok you’ll find the famous Thai beach resort of Hua Hin – a place historically favoured by the Thai royal family and famed by its pretty beaches and outstanding seafood cuisine.

Thanks to improvements in the road networks, the resort is accessible in around 3 hours by car from Bangkok International Airport making it a viable destination for a multi centre break twinned with the capital – and it’s a place gradually garnering more interest for those looking longingly towards luxury holidays. That includes me!

Over the years, some top class hotels have appeared in Hua Hin, leading resorts include the Aleenta, Evason and Six Senses in Pranburi and the Hilton, Anantara and Dusit Thani situated a little closer to the town. You’ll be in safe hands with a stay at any of these prestigious 5* establishments.

Hua Hin is a quiet and peaceful place to visit – not somewhere to come to if you’re looking for raucous nightlife or street parties. But you will find a good resort centre with varied shops and multi-national restaurants, as well as the famed Royal Hua Hin Golf Course which was one of the first built in Thailand originally for the king and his family to use. If you want to navigate further afield, you could use the famous old railway station which is said to represent one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in Thailand.

The main beach in Hua Hin stretches for around 5km and is popular with kite boarders and of course, sun bathers. However, if you’re prepared to adventure a little deeper you might stumble across two neighbouring beaches on the road out to Khao Tao – these being Hat Sat Noi and Hat Sai Yai, well worth the discovery – not that Hua Hin beach is overcrowded.

Elephant camps are also numerous in Hua Hin and taking a trip on the back of one these docile creatures is always recommended, you’ll meander through rainforest and bamboo plantations, discovering some of Thailand’s hidden scenic beauty. Tours are bookable via hotels but also widely advertised in the resort centre.

An ambitious International Film Festival is scheduled for the end of January here too, where around 30 films from across the Far East will be shown and industry experts will be flown in to attend the screenings, there’s even rumours of A-list celebrity attendees, although these are as yet unconfirmed.

The best time to visit Hua Hin for warmer weather is between March and May and I for one will be putting this destination on my wish list, I’ve heard so many good reports from colleagues that it would be a shame to miss out.

When you think about the Caribbean, luxury may not always be the first thing that comes to mind, particularly if you’ve had a bad experience in the past. But if you’re looking for a unique and luxurious Caribbean getaway, look no further than the Paradisus Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic.

Let me first start off by saying that I am not a travel agent, nor am I associated with this resort in any way. I am simply a frequent vacation-goer who appreciates lush and luxurious surroundings and had a particularly memorable experience staying at the Paradisus Punta Cana.

When you first arrive at the Paradisus, it looks and feels like an exotic botanical gardens set in paradise. The first thing you see is a beautiful open-air design with an endless amount of flora surrounding you everywhere you turn. Furthermore, there are fountains and little waterways throughout the lobby where you can check out different species of fish. As a lover of gardens and the great outdoors, I instantly fell in love with the surroundings. The resort grounds are huge so you can either opt for transportation (which comes by often) or enjoy a leisurely stroll. If you love long romantic walks, exotic flowers and some serious photo opps, you definitely won’t mind walking around the beautiful resort.

The Paradisus Punta Cana is an all-inclusive resort, but we decided to book the Reserve and it was definitely worth every penny. The Reserve is like a resort inside a resort and right off the bat we were treated like royalty! Our suite included a jetted tub, living room, private balcony, 24-hour room service and more. The suite exuded luxury and it was fit for a king… or a small family! In addition to amazing accommodations, the Reserve guests have access to a private pool as well as all the amazing restaurants and bars.

I am typically pretty picky when it comes to beaches, but the Playa de Bavaro beach amazing. The white sandy beach was gorgeous and the Caribbean water was crystal clear. But if you’re into pools, there are plenty of them! Both the beach and pools have romantic cabanas and beds, but those on the beach make the perfect place to watch the sun go down.

All of the employees are extremely friendly and accommodating and despite traveling to a new country, they make you feel right at home. If you’re looking for an exotic beach getaway or simply enjoy lush tropical surroundings, definitely look into the Paradisus Punta Cana.

A 5 star hotel in a peaceful, tranquil and sun soaked destination may be the minimum requirement for adults, however, that much needed peace and quiet could be quashed if a range of activities for kids are not provided. In addition, parents need to know that the resort they choose boasts appropriate facilities and equipment for babies, toddlers and young children.

To help parents find an appropriate resort; here are 5 luxurious, family friendly holiday destinations all providing extensive programmes and facilities for children:

2.	Atlantis The Palm, Dubai

This spectacular looking, 6 star resort features its own monorail system, an Aquaventure theme water park, a music stadium featuring performances from internationally renowned artists and 20,000ft of retail space. The provisions for children and parents are exceptional and include: a 24 hour in-room babysitting program; a Kids Club for children aged 3 to 12 and ‘Club Rush’ for teenagers featuring a Mocktail bar, chill out lounge and internet café.

Which is the best kind of tropical island holiday? One where you lie on the same spot of the beach every day, read a couple of paperbacks, barely leave your lounger and pay exorbitant prices for imported water? Or one with benefits that last well after the tan has faded? Where you come back feeling re-energised, reinvigorated, re-inspired and re-ignited?

For those who tick the second box, LUX* Island Resorts launches this month at three hotels on Mauritius, one in the Maldives and one on Ile de La Réunion. The new brand, which replaces Naïade Resorts Ltd, represents the complete re-launch of the company and the culmination of an intensive twelve months of painstaking preparation and rehearsal.

CEO Paul Jones, a passionate hotelier and travel industry expert, was previously a key member of the team responsible for launching the highly aspirational One&Only brand. When he took over the fading Naïade Resorts group in late 2010, he and his management team saw an opportunity to create something truly unique in its place. They recognised that luxury itself had undergone a sea change: no longer synonymous with excess and bling, true luxury has become simpler, fresher and more individual.

Inspired by this change, it was agreed that rather than offering the standard sun, sea and sand 5-star vacation, LUX* Island Resorts would be defined by an experience that had been entirely and radically re-conceptualised.

The manifestation of this change is Island Light, the signature concept that will run at all LUX* Island Resorts. Adopting a name which is Latin for light, the new brand is dedicated to staging a lighter, brighter and less complicated holiday experience. Jones compares the concept to a musical production, where each resort is a theatre and its staff is the cast producing a show-stopping performance every day.

At its core is the commitment to doing the ordinary extraordinarily. Freshly-roasted organic coffee, retro-styled ice-cream parlours, on-the-beach film screenings, pop-up restaurants, integrated wellness & spa programmes, honesty bars and libraries of cool magazines are individually tempting, but it is the cumulative impact of these and a whole raft of other carefully choreographed Island Light experiences – underpinned by truly incredible service – which adds up to an exhilarating change of direction within the ’sea of sameness’ that most resorts offer.

LUX* recognises that it is the audience – the guests – who count most and Jones is confident that this new brand of simpler, more relaxed and more individual luxury – underpinned with truly incredible service – will have wide appeal: “I have spent 35 years designing, building, operating and managing resorts in exotic destinations around the world”, says Jones, “this project has presented me with an opportunity to contribute all that knowledge and insight. We are doing more than simply changing the name of the Company or putting a new brand on our hotels. Island Light is the summation of many different ingredients, which when experienced as a whole are a very powerful alternative to the usual island resort holiday. LUX* has determined its purpose as ‘Helping People Celebrate Life’ and that is what every
member of our team is committed to and has pledged to deliver”.

When it comes to truly dramatic landscapes, unhinged wilderness experiences and exploration through stunningly remote scenery, Patagonia trumps the lot. From the jagged peaks of Torres del Paine to the beautiful Tierra del Fuego National Park, travelling to South America’s final frontier is a must for any intrepid traveller wanting to experience the ultimate ‘great outdoors’.

El Chalten and Torres del Paine

Patagonia is a trekker’s paradise. Full stop. On the boarder of Chile and Argentina lies the town of El Chalten, surrounded by the imposing granite peaks of Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre this is an area of overwhelmingly stunning scenery – perfect for strapping on the hiking boots and soaking it all up. Just over the border, 2800m above the Patagonian Steppe, Torres del Paine National Park dominates the landscape. Fear not though, here it’s not all about climbing huge peaks, there are miles and miles of trails through pristine emerald forests to trek through, crystal clear lakes to navigate and huge blue glaciers to marvel at.

Peninsula Valdes

Marine wildlife experiences in Patagonia are some of the best on the planet and Peninsula Valdes is undoubtedly this regions Mecca. Here, whales can be seen all year round along the coastline, Elephant Seals line the beaches and incredible Orcas can be seen hunting in the surf – a breathtaking experience. True wildlife explorers can rest their head at Estancia Rincon Chico, a traditional estancia owned by the fifth generation of the same family who are dedicated to the conservation and observation of the incredible wildlife in Peninsula Valdes.

Lake District and Cape Horn

Slightly further to the North is Argentina’s Lake District. An incredible region for avid anglers, keen horse riders and even skiers during the winter months. Hole up in Bariloche, the regions mountain town located on Lake Nahuel Huapi, where there a number of stunning luxury spa hotels to rest your aching bones after a long day exploring. Llao Llao is a top pick for its sublime position, nestled between the snow capped mountains and the shimmering lake. From here you can sail across the picture perfect glacial lakes, take a trip to Cape Horn or simply immerse yourself in the unique surroundings of this truly unique South American destination.

The first lodge, El MaPi, a 48-room, contemporary designed hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo, opened last summer.

New lodge Hacienda Concepcion, located downriver from Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica, boasts a guesthouse-style central lodge constructed of natural materials with 8 double rooms, a spacious bar and restaurant and views into the surrounding jungle. Evenings are punctuated by the sounds of the rainforest, with trails around the lodge illuminated by oil lanterns and candles. One of the first guests through the door was Mick Jagger, who booked the entire complex for his family on his recent tour of the country. Guests at Hacienda Concepcion can enjoy authentic Peruvian dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients and complimentary Pisco Sour cocktails at sundown. A shady pathway through rubber and cocoa trees leads to 7 individual cabanas built in the local tribal style set around a natural lake which attracts colourful exotic birds and many reptiles. IN line with Inkaterra’s reputation for conservation and investment in the local natural economy, the lodge is 100% carbon neutral and guests can undertake numerous discovery excursions into the rainforest to observe fauna, wildlife and indulge in twilight walks to spot fireflies, tarantulas, snakes and bushbabies, amongst others. There are also canoe trips down the nearby Madre de Dios river to track caiman and capybara as well as visits to the original Fitzcarrald shipwreck which inspired film director Werner Herzog’s award-winning movie “Fitzcarraldo”.

A 3 day/2 night package starts from $280 per person sharing a double room. Rate is on a full-board basis and includes round trip transportation by land and river, excursions to the canopy walkway, Inkaterra butterfly house and a trip to Lake Sandoval.

African safaris are best suited for children age 5 and up. Each one is specially designed to suit each family’s interests and preferences and the camps will happily accommodate special dietary requirements. Your safari experience will be very private and you will be kept well away from the crowds and minibuses that you see in the busier reserves that cater for cheaper package tours. Africa is a year round safari destination and there are always good game viewing opportunities – whether you are visiting over Christmas, Easter, the summer holiday or one of the half term breaks.

South Africa and Kenya are the obvious family safari destinations but Botswana, Tanzania and Zambia also offer some excellent family accommodation. South Africa is popular because it offers malaria free safaris and Kenya is popular for its easy access from the UK and Europe as well as its wonderful variety of activities and cultural interaction. A Botswana safari and a Zambia safari are well suited for active families with teenagers who enjoy traditional game viewing activities like walking safaris and game drives.

A luxury family safari in Africa combines well with a Robinson Crusoe style beach holiday in Mozambique, Mauritius or Zanzibar where the whole family can enjoy a variety of water sports. If you are planning a malaria free South Africa safari, then you should definitely spend a few days in Cape Town – exploring the city and the Cape Winelands.

A few family safari camps and lodges:

Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp lies on the banks of a permanent lagoon formed by the Kwando River. The camp consists of 6 tents and is the perfect place for families who are very into wildlife. The activities are focussed on the game viewing experience and include canoeing safaris, boating safaris, walking safaris and traditional game drives as well as tiger fishing – a popular activity for boys of all ages.

Chitabe Lediba

Chitabe Lediba is situated in the Chitabe Concession, neighbouring the Moremi Game Reserve. It is just south f the Okavango Delta and features a seasonal landscape that changes from brown scrub in the dry season to a lush green oasis in the wet season. Chitabe is a small camp that consists of five tented suites that have been built on raised teak platforms. Some of the tents are inter leading – making it a great choice for family groups. The wildlife is prolific and activities include walking safaris, game drives and sleep outs in the hides.

Sabuk Lodge

Sabuk Lodge is situated in the northern frontier district and is perched on a cliff that overlooks the Ewaso River. The camp has far reaching views over the Laikipia plains and offers the very best in family accommodation. Activities are adventurous and include camel safaris, walking safaris, game drives, bush craft, fire lighting, animal tracking and cultural interaction with the Samburu guides who will teach your kids about their traditional way of life.

Vamizi Island Lodge

Vamizi Island Lodge is a Robinson Crusoe style beach lodge on the northern coast of Mozambique. It offers private accommodation that is surrounded by miles and miles of white powdery sand and crystal clear and warm Indian Ocean waters. Activities include scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, kayaking, game walks and picnic to the neighbouring islands.

Impodimo

Impodimo is situated in the malaria free Madikwe reserve. At Impodimo, staff go out of their way to welcome children of all ages. All children are given a good y bag on arrival and activities are designed to be fun and informative. They include bush baking, bush crafts, animal tracking, paper mask making, swimming and guided nature walks around the camp. Impodimo also offers a baby sitting service so parents can enjoy a much needed rest.

Kiba Point

Kiba Point is a beautiful Tanzania safari lodge situated in the Northern Selous. It offers one of the best family safari experiences in Tanzania and is suited for children of all ages. The camp has been built in a lovely quiet spot on the banks of the Rufiji River and consists of four spacious and well appointed cottages with private plunge pools. You will also have a private vehicle and guide who will accompany you on all your bush activities. Activities include game drives, walking safaris, boating safaris and fishing.

Cape Grace

Although the Cape Grace is not a safari camp it has great family accommodation choices and is worth a stay if you are visiting Cape Town. The Cape Grace is situated on the bustling Victoria and Alfred Waterfront – in the shadow of Table Mountain. The accommodation is spacious and very luxurious and it is the ideal base from which to explore the city. The hotel is very welcoming to families and even offers a baby sitting service. Children are given a welcome pack on arrival and are invited to enjoy bedtime stories in the library every evening. The hotel also has a luxury yacht that is available for exclusive use.

You’d be hard pushed to find a traveller who hasn’t heard of the Serengeti, or a luxury-lover who doesn’t know of Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. But those in the know, who’ve been visiting Tanzania for years, want the best in luxury safari holidays, not the best known.

Ten years ago I lived in Dar es Salaam, and since then I’ve been back and forth to Tanzania trying to find the best of the best, so that I can introduce my clients to the country I love. I’ve been to world-famous game reserves, and wilderness areas that few outsiders have ever heard of (Pare Mountains anyone?) to come up with my list of Tanzania’s properties that deliver the ultimate luxuries: charm, beauty and unforgettable memories.

Beho Beho, Selous Game Reserve

In spite of years travelling the globe in considerable style, all travel experts have their favourites, the treasures we’d pay to return to again and again. For me, this place is Beho Beho, in the Selous Game Reserve. Staff welcome guests as old friends, the guides are amongst the best I’ve ever had, and the food is out of this world. Best of all, the Selous is the size of Switzerland, so you don’t share the experience.

Sayari, Northern Serengeti

When I first went to the Northern Serengeti, we drove for hours without seeing a soul, and accommodation was almost impossible to come by. With the wildlife and beauty of the Masai Mara, but none of the visitors, the rest of the world has caught on, and this area is big news for 2012. One of the few places where visitors stand a chance of enjoying a river crossing to themselves, there are just two permanent camps here. My pick of the bunch is Sayari, which has blossomed from a seasonal mobile camp into a serious luxury camp, with game viewing and views to die for.

The Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam

Normally, a hotel in Dar es Salaam is simply a place to crash out before an early morning flight. The Oyster Bay has changed all of this. Such is the warmth of the welcome and the charm of the staff, it’s rapidly becoming a destination by itself. When a hotel’s “standby supper” is effortlessly produced lobster, delicious enough to satisfy one of London’s toughest restaurant critics (a dinner companion on my last visit), you know you’re on to something special.

Greystoke, Mahale Mountains

In an era when it seems that every hotel has a pillow menu, wi-fi in the bath, and 1,000 TV channels, a mere few cater to those who like their luxuries a little more authentic. Intrepid travellers will find their ultimate reward at Greystoke Mahale. A six hour flight from the Serengeti on one of the world’s most beautiful lakes, Greystoke’s location is second to none. My visit delivered spine-tingling chimp viewing, swimming in the clearest water, and shooting stars like burning balls of fire. I’d actually be nervous to return, in case it didn’t live up to my memories, but each of my clients comes back similarly entranced.

Mwagusi, Ruaha National Park

It’s hard to put a price on adventure, but in our safe and largely circumscribed lives, it’s certainly a luxury worth travelling for. The Ruaha National Park delivers in spades. Wild dogs making kills in camp and elephants blocking the path to dinner- it always seems to happen here. It’s rare that I have a guest return from the Ruaha without a glint in their eye and a thrilling tale of adventure. Pack your bags – you won’t regret it.

Marty Carr is CEO of Carr Golf Travel, which includes the brand Online Golf Travel, and offers bespoke golf travel in Europe and the US and runs several world-class golf events in Ireland. The son of Joe Carr, who won 40 golf championships and was one of the world’s best ever amateur golfers, Marty studied at the University in California before working for five years on Wall Street. He returned to his native Dublin in 1990 to set up the Carr Golf Group.

What is it that you do exactly?

I manage a business of more than 40 staff. I get up early and am in the office at 7.30am each day (when I am not travelling) and I spend a lot of my time in meetings and dealing with emails, but am at my happiest selling. No day is ever the same. I travel and am on the road at least three months of the year. I also attend a lot of international and domestic golf events and also events which we run. Our company manages several golf venues and I visit these from time to time.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

The variety, meeting people and working as part of a team. The golf business is all about fun.

What would you say are the 3 best places you’ve ever stayed?

1) Floridian Yacht & Golf Club – This was a unique club owned by Wayne Huizenga and I was privileged to be a member. The accommodation, the golf course, the clubhouse and the staff were spectacular, but it was so relaxed and so much fun. It has since been sold and is privately owned.

2) I love The Breakers in Palm Beach. I spent Christmas there with my family and it was just fantastic.

3) Doonbeg Lodge in Ireland. This creation by the owners of Kiawah Island is the finest golf links resort in the world.

What’s been your most memorable dining experience to date?

I had an interesting meal a few years ago at Nobu in Malibu. I had just flown in from Ireland and was a little tired. I went out to dinner with Stuart Townsend and the actress Charlize Theron. The food was unbelievable (I love sushi) and I decided to pick up the tab as I was staying with them. Little did I know we were drinking vintage saki and the bill was close to $2,000. Needless to say I will never forget this one.

Have you rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous, either through your work or your travels?

I have been fortunate to meet and play golf with many celebrities over the past 20 years. Dan Quayle and Dan Marino play in our family golf events every year. I have also played golf with Jack Welsh and Matt Lauer (who my brother and I beat in a 9-hole match, this was memorable). I also have played golf with Wayne Gretsky and Catherine Zeta Jones and we have had Michael Douglas, Rush Limbauch, Tom Fazio, Denis Taylor, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Orr work with our company over the years.

What currently ranks highest on your travel wish list?

I would like to travel around the world for six months. My two girls are 8 and 10, so I will probably have to wait a few years before I can do this, but I would like to visit South America, Australia, Asia, Africa with them over a long period of time.

Thank you for taking part in our interview, Marty. The course at Doonbeg Lodge does indeed look stunning!
