Madonna dines at Hotel De Russie, Rome

Madonna and Guy Ritchie were recently spotted dining at the terrace restaurant at Rocco Forte’s  Hotel De Russie in Rome.   The couple were spotted  at a secluded  corner table  by a British wedding party celebrating at the same hotel. The bride was an employee of the five-star St. David’s Hotel in Cardiff, Wales,  also [...]

Azimut Yachts leading the way

Azimut Yachts leading the way

It seems that the Italians are leading the way in the luxury yachting world.   And Azimut Yachts is a case in point. This company manufactures boats with generously proportioned windows enabling those on board to view almost to water level. Their boats also tend to have bold designs, often with a retractable roof on [...]

Europe to get its first 7-star hotel

Europe to get its first 7-star hotel

I’m always wary when you hear of 6-star and 7-star hotels.  Afterall, no nationally-recognised tourist classification scheme goes beyond 5 stars. Anyway, enough of my whinging… apparently Europe is to get its first “7-star” hotel. It will be the Town House Galleria in Milan, Itlay. The hotel is on Galleria Vittoria Emanuele, an elegant shopping [...]

Three in a bed at Hotel Landhaus Milser

Three in a bed at Hotel Landhaus Milser

The Landhaus Milser  had three  unexpected, but nevertheless welcome, guests in one of its beds last night.    Home to the Italian national football side for the last month, the hotel put on 350 bottles of spumante  (note, not French Champagne!)… as if the celebrations needed a little help! And the three in a bed, [...]

Special feature: Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio in the Italian Lakes

Special feature: Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio in the Italian Lakes

When you see a lone,  bright red Ferrari parked outside, you kind of already know that you have reached somewhere that’s likely to be grand and palatial. The entrance to the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni was in full bloom  when we arrived  in the  sleepy-but-romantic town of Bellagio earlier this month, and the interior lived [...]

Intown Luxury House in Rome, Italy

Intown Luxury House in Rome, Italy

In the heart of Rome, near the Spanish Steps, a small building hides six luxurious, light, minimalist suites: perfect for those who feel the classic hotel to be too impersonal or a bed and breakfast too familiar. Intown is a very charming, rich yet simplistic, designer project, evoking the feeling of being in a Roman [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the exclusive and historically-unique  Hotel Principe di Savoia Milano  earlier this month.  This member of  the Dorchester Group is one of just two Milanese hotels that make it into the Condé Nast  top 700 hotels in the world. Occupying a great location on Piazza della Repubblica, it is  just [...]
