Most visitors to Siem Reap are there because of its close proximity to Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered by many to be one of the great wonders of the world. You have to actually go there to appreciate just how vast it is.
Siem Reap is very easy to get around and, if you were staying in the Amansara or a similar hotel, the best option for visiting Angkor Wat would be to hire a tuk-tuk for the day (about $10?). These are not like the tuk-tuks in Thailand. It’s a two person canopied carriage pulled by a motorbike. Believe me, you need motorised transport to get around Angkor Wat – although keen cyclists would probably manage it too.
Traffic is fairly light and even a nervous road passenger like me can feel comfortable and enjoy the tuk-tuk experience.
