Room renovations at The Singapore Marriott

The Singapore MarriottA six-month renovation project at The Singapore Marriott on Orchard Road has just been completed. Depending on the room category, upgraded features include ergonomic workstations, mood lighting, softer sheets, plusher mattresses, and high-speed internet access. Junior suites now have new digital panels that let guests plug laptops into the LCD high-definition TV monitor – you can even split the screen to see both  your laptop monitor and watch TV, view digital images, and play music from  your own MP3 player. Rates for rooms with internet access start at approximately $300.

  1. Have stayed in a number of Marriott Hotels (predominantly in Europe) but the one in Singapore is really very good. One of the advantages is that it is right in the heart of the upmarket shopping district called Orchard Road. Warning!!! it is pretty pricey. Having said that the coffee shop downstairs has a terrace which usually serves up lunch buffet especially on weekends that is very reasonably priced (around £15 per head) and it offers absolutely mouth watering delicacies including oysters, sushi, variety of sea food as well as local delicacies and western. Their desserts are simply out of this world. Half the restaurant is indoor and the other half is out on the terrace over looking shoppers walking by. For the location (posh area) the price and value it is offering for lunch it is brilliant. Please note that does not include drinks – that is separate. After or before eating the hotel is connected to TANG’s shopping centre so really you do not have to go far for your shopping. There is a cinema across the road which you could get to from the underpass through the basement floor of the hotel. Across the road there is an English Pub (not many tourist know this) called the Jockey Pub. The Jockey Pub is a very old establishment opened by and English migrant since the 1970’s (being modernised several times over the years) at the Shaw Centre. Look out for it. Once based at the Marriott you need not go far for almost anything all within walking distance – great location.
