New 5-star hotel at Machu Picchu

SUMAQ Machu Picchu Hotel has been certified with five stars by the Regional Government of Cusco in Peru, adding to the luxury accommodation available. Only open to the public for one year, SUMAQ has 60 luxurious rooms split between superior deluxe, junior suites and Sumaq Suites. The architecture, infrastructure and interior projects have been designed to fit in with the landscape, incorporating exclusive designs based on the Inca culture. The Qunuq Restaurant and Suquy Café & Bar offers exquisite samples of Novoandina cuisine and international food carefully designed by Peruvian chef Rafael Piqueras. Also, to ease away aches and pains, the natural Spa ‘Aqlla’ incorporates therapeutic techniques with thermal baths as well as medicinal plants used by ancient Peruvians.

  1. Let’s be real though: Peru’s government hands out five-star ratings like a parent handing out candy on Halloween. This hotel is nice enough, but not in the same league as the Inkaterra Pueblo.
