A non-cricket reason to visit the Gabba, Queensland

With The Ashes series not far off, the eyes of the cricketing world will soon be focussed on Australia. While it’s no secret to savvy Brisbanites, sporting tourists to Queensland’s Woolloongabba (known as the Gabba) may be bowled over to find a vibrant restaurant quarter has sprung up just a stone’s throw from the hallowed ground transforming the area into a stylish dining hub. From 1889 Enoteca, a Roman-flavoured vinaio/wine bar/restaurant in the heritage-listed Heaslop building, to next door neighbour and newcomer Bistrot Bistro; while further along sits the cool Pearl Cafe. The deliciousness continues in a renovated antique store, courtesy of The Crosstown Eating House.

  1. Enoteca one of the best in Brissie (though that said it does not really have much competition – restaurant quality in my city is not really up to much, especially compared with SYD & MEL) :-(

  2. I definitely don’t need the excuse of cricket to go to queensland. i only hope brisbane and the surrounding areas are recovering after the terrible floods

  3. Would love to go to Queensland (and not for the cricket!). Poor people there though suffering those floods, looked awful.
