New luxury hotels for London 2012

All eyes are undoubtedly going to be on London in 2012 – not only because of the Olympic Games, but also because of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.  Here’s a round-up of new hotels coming to the one of the world’s most popular capital cities. Thompson Belgraves, London Thompson Belgraves is Thompson Hotels’ first hotel outside of North America, which opened in London on 1 February 2012. The hotel is situated in Belgravia and consists of 85 rooms, an 80-capacity restaurant from celebrity chef Mark Hix – the menu is British focused, but with more of an international feel from the chefÂ’s travels around the globe. Bulgari Hotel, London The Bulgari Hotel is scheduled to open in April with 85 stylish rooms and suites, a restaurant, bar and spa in the Knightsbridge area. The hotel will also feature a lavish Italian restaurant, bar, spa with 25m swimming pool and a 47-seat screening room. The London opening will add to the brandÂ’s existing properties in Milan and Bali. ME by Melia, London Designed by Norman Foster, ME by Melia will launch in Covent Garden with 157 rooms and 18 suites. The hotel will feature two restaurants on the ground floor, including STK, a popular steak restaurant from the US, and a rooftop club bar with views of the Thames, Houses of Parliament and the London Eye. There will also be an exclusive adults-only floor with a host of amenities including private early / late check in or out, complimentary local calls, an iPod and pressing of up to 3 garments upon arrival. Dorset Square Hotel, London Firmdale hotels will launch their latest arrival, Dorset Square Hotel, this summer in Marylebone, with 38 rooms, a bar and a brasserie. Dorset Square was the group’s first hotel, which has now been re-acquired and is undergoing a full refurbishment. The hotel will be designed in the signature style of bold colours and textures similar to their other London favourites such as the Soho Hotel and the Covent Garden Hotel. Café Royal, London With 160 rooms and suites, the revamped Cafe Royal Hotel on Regent Street will have a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars, a spa with a lap pool and a private members’ club. In its heyday in the late 19th Century, the hotel was home to many of the era’s luminaries, including Oscar Wilde, and the refurbished hotel will surely aim to return to its former glory.
