Living luxuriously in London for free

Yes, we all know that London is incredibly expensive. Whether you live in central London, Greater London, or decide to visit, you might think that luxurious entertainment comes at a high price. However, as the summer months approach, there’s really no need to pay for activities, not when you can get them for free! Here are my top free and luxurious things to do in London for the months of June/July before Olympic madness kicks in! Visit the ballet (well, sort of!) Canary Wharf will be hosting the Royal Ballet‘s Metamorphosis: Titan 2012 on 16th July 2012, at 7:30pm. Following two successful screenings of La Boheme and Falstaff at Trafalgar Square in May, the outdoor live screening is a fantastic way to experience the buzz of the ballet without a hefty price tag. Inspired by Titian’s works that are available to see in the National Gallery, the ballet is contemporary and exciting – accompanied by several scores from British composers. Listen to the best up-and-coming classical musicians at the Southbank Attend one of the many free concerts at the Southbank in June, including my personal favourite the Peruvian quartet Malambo. The traditional Canción Criolla incorporates African, Spanish and Andean influences. One of the many free concerts available at the Southbank, 15th June 2012 at 1pm in the central bar foyer. Attend a private gallery view in East London There’s usually a whole host of viewings in the East of London on Thursdays, some you may need an invite to, and others you can just turn up. It’s a brilliant place to network with a like minded crowd, and enjoy the art on offer – not to mention the free wine and nibbles. Go to a museum late show Go to a museum late show like the one at the Tate, every first Friday of the month. With free entry allowing you to witness a whole host of entertainment, including live performances, talks, music and films as well as an open bar and restaurant, the late night museum and gallery events let you experience the attractions in a sophisticated way with lots of grown-up fun. Many of the museums open their doors to the special exhibitions for free, and others provide the opportunity to visit them for half price. My personal favourite is the Natural History Museum – there’s nothing quite like sipping a glass of wine next to an enormous Diplodicus. Charlotte Nicol is a Co-Founder of Most Curious Tours.
