Après ski in the Alps: 3 of the best places to unwind

“Après ski” is more commonly known as a universal codeword for “getting utterly sloshed slopeside”. However, that is not everyone’s idea of a great time – and if you’re wanting to get up and hit the slopes as the sun rises, not be staggering out of a bar at this time, you’re probably more interested in having a nice quiet drink. But it can be quite a challenge to find the ideal place to relax. As I’m sure you know, many restaurants morph into drinking holes as the sun sets, so you shouldn’t rely on just stumbling upon the perfect place to unwind. So if you’re looking for somewhere to relax before returning to your luxury chalet, here is a list of places to take with you. Chesa Bar (Klosters, Switzerland) If you want somewhere to unwind on a comfy seat in front of a roaring fire, with a cocktail in hand and the sound of a grand piano in your ears, then this is the place for you. Frequented by the British Royal Family – in particular Harry, William and Charles – there isn’t a more luxurious place in the whole of Switzerland. The hotel restaurant is absolutely wonderful for a hearty post-slope meal, and offers a fantastic cosy, soft-lit atmosphere and great food – though make sure to change out of your ski wear first! White Lounge (Mayrhofen, Austria) The White Lounge is perfect for those who want to experience something slightly different to the classic chalet bars. Taking shape as a giant igloo, with candlelit nooks where you can sit with a cocktail, it’s a stunning place for a romantic drink, or simply a quiet one with a few friends. If you get bored of sitting inside, then venture outside to one of the sun loungers, where you can soak up the stunning mountain scenery and work on evening out your tan. Le Lapin Agile (Chamonix, France) In the shadow of Mont Blanc lies this small restaurant and bar, which despite looking tiny from the outside, is well worth spending an evening in. With an excellent selection of wines and blonde beers, this bar has a lovely cosy atmosphere, and if you’re not in the mood for alcohol their hot chocolate is the best in the resort! Le Lapin also serves Italian style food, which provides a great hearty meal after a day on the slopes. Do you have any other recommendations for relaxed après ski in the Alps? 1. After skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo, The “Pearl of the Dolomites”, you can’t absolutely miss the Bar of the Hotel de la Poste. Here, the well-known barman Antonio di Franco prepares delicious cocktails and aperitivi, both international and homemade. Have a good unwind! ;-)

  2. Love the Chesa Bar, the music is brilliant and it is indeed the best after ski ever, oh, wait, Little Nell in Aspen is also a firm favourite but in Europe Chesa is THE place for sure!
