Top tips for the ultimate luxury theatre break in London

Few cities in the world are as renowned for their theatre as much as London is. With beautiful hotels, world-class restaurants and sightseeing galore, there are also few places that are as exciting a destination for a luxury theatre break. Here are our tips for planning the perfect theatre break in London. Choose your style With hundreds of theatres, thereÂ’s always a huge range on from musical blockbusters, to classic plays, opera, ballet, comedy shows and circus-style performances. Consult the entertainment and culture sections of the national papers to read reviews and decide what youÂ’d most like to see. In just one day, you could fit in a matinee and an evening performance, too! Be sure to book your tickets in advance and do so through an official ticket seller, to ensure youÂ’re getting the seats youÂ’re paying for. For the best seats at the most popular shows, itÂ’s recommended to book several weeks – if not months – in advance. Getting seats in a box is a popular choice for an extra special experience, but bear in mind that although youÂ’ll have your own private area, they donÂ’t always offer as good a view as seats in the stalls or dress circle. Check with the individual theatre for advice on where the best seats can be located as it varies from place to place. Kick back in comfort Be sure to book a hotel in advance. Some of the cityÂ’s best are within walking distance of the theatre district, as well as the central parks and shopping areas, so youÂ’ll be well placed for exploring. The top hotels have lovely bars in which to relax with a drink and may have a ‘theatre menuÂ’ designed for earlier-than-normal service before the show starts. Travel in style If youÂ’re coming from within the UK or Europe, itÂ’s always an option to drive. However, you might be wise to leave the car at home and use public transport to reach the city. Comfortable trains make the swift journeys from the airports and elsewhere around the country to one of the fairly central terminals and from here itÂ’s easy to catch a black cab to wherever youÂ’re headed. You could always arrange for your hotel to collect you from your point of arrival. Many companies offer luxury car hire and limousine serves around the capital, too. If you fancy a more authentic approach, you might like to try the bus. While the classic Routemaster double decker buses were taken out of service in 2005, the 15 still runs in its old form from the Tower of London to Trafalgar Square, passing through the theatre district.
