Iceland‘s capital has a bustling shopping scene with a range of stores offering the very best in international and local brands. The main shopping street of Laugavegur boasts funky streetwear, high fashion, local music, cool Icelandic design and quirky souvenirs. Branching off Laugavegur is the quieter Skólavörðustígur, lined with galleries and shops with an emphasis on woollens and ceramics, as well as cozy coffeehouses and delicatessens. Shop Below are the top picks for shopping in Reykjavik: Mundi A featured designer of Reykjavik Fashion Festival, the label was established in 2007 and is the creation of Icelandic prodigy Gudmundur Hallgrímsson. He took Iclelandic wool and design to new heights with his avant-garde collection and, at just 25 years old, this menswear designer has already featured in both Paris and New York Fashion Week. KronKron This store initially started out with a few up and coming designers like KTZ, Marjan Pejoski, and Danish brand Wood Wood and quickly grew and took aboard more labels such as Eley Kishimoto, Roksanda Illincic and Henrik Vibskov. Today it also carries established labels such as Vivienne Westwood, Sonia Rykiel, Marc Jacobs and Bernhard Wilhelm. Kassetta This small boutique located just a few streets down from Laugavegur sells new jeans, lomo cameras and vintage clothing amongst other things. Kolaportið Flea Market Held in a huge industrial building by the harbour, this weekend market is a Reykjavík institution and a must for all visitors. Browse through piles of secondhand clothes, music, antiques and children’s toys, or pick up Icelandic fish delicacies ­including cubes of hákarl. Handknitting Association of Iceland Traditional handmade hats, socks and sweaters are sold at this knitting collective in Skólavörðustígur 19, in the old city centre of Reykjavík. Yarn and knitting patterns are available to buy for a ‘do-it-yourself’ approach.
