Maldives The ultimate eco island Located at the tip of the Great Barrier Reef and home to some of the most incredible diving on the planet, Lady Elliot Island in Australia is something a little bit special. 1. Nice article. Liked the house on the rock.

For those looking for something unique, but closer to home I recommend Sanibel Island, Florida on the Southwest Gulf coast. Unlike many other commercialized islands, Sanibel has changed little in 30+ years.

All natural uncrowded beaches. Home to the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge & Roseatte Spoonbill birds – large pink birds with unusual spoon shaped bills.

26 miles of flat bike paths.

Peaceful, but with lots of family fun things to do. Or nothing to do at all but work on you tan at the beach or pool.

Come to my island. But you may never want to leave.

  2. Phi Phi is a magical island for sure, but it has too many of its share of “backpackers & full-moon party weirdos”. There are spaces far from the madding crowd on the island of Phuket; Ya Nui Beach in the south of the island is an idyllic escape and reminds me of my days living (yes living for nearly two years!) in Bora Bora – another magical isle…

    Bring on MORE islands! :)

  3. The rock restaurant island in Zanzibar looks absolutely incredible! I know nothing about what the cuisine is like there, but these islands sure look fantastic. Except for the golfer’s island. I think that one is more my parent’s thing. :) Great article!
