3 stylish new hotels on Mallorca

Mallorca’s choice of chic luxury accommodation continues to grow, with several new hotels opening during 2014. For a spring break this year, check out the following three new hotels in different areas of the Spanish island. In the capital, Palma de Mallorca, Boutique Hotel Can Alomar opens on 1st May 2014, in a renovated 19th Century neogothic-style mansion on the city’s Paseo del Borne. The smart boulevard is also home to designer stores including Louis Vuitton, Boss, and Carolina Herrera, and very close to Palma Cathedral and Almudaina Palace. Boutique Hotel Can Alomar, Palma de Mallorca Boutique Hotel Can Alomar has 16 spacious guest rooms (including suites), lounge and ground-floor restaurant, with two terraces. The hotel’s interior décor blends contemporary style with some period pieces. Guests have the benefit of the rooftop solarium terrace, with small pool, Jacuzzi, and indoor and outdoor massage areas – as well as city, sea and mountain views from the building’s look-out tower. The new privately owned hotel is the sister property to Can Cera Hotel and Boutique Hotel Calatrava – both in Palma’s old town and owned by a local entrepreneur and his architect wife. OD Hotels – which operates two designer boutique hotels in Ibiza – opens Ocean Drive Port Portals in April, near the entrance to Mallorca’s smart Puerto Portals marina and with several good beaches nearby. The new 77-room hotel is a retro-glamour-style total redevelopment of a former hotel, offering large swimming pool, restaurant/bar/lobby area, and conference rooms. Guests staying in one of the 10 junior suites enjoy the complimentary use of a Smart Cabrio hire car. The hotel is a member of Design Hotels. For a more tranquil rural setting, the Petit Hotel Son Arnau is a charming new six-room hotel on the edge of the village of Selva, and backed by the property’s almond orchards. Just two kilometres – but in essence a world away – from the town of Inca (famous for leather goods), it’s close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tramuntana mountains. British couple Susan and Alex Terry opened the property in February, offering a high standard of service and facilities for a hotel of this size. Private terrace of suite at Petit Hotel Son Arnau Petit Hotel Son Arnau – a high-quality restoration of two adjoining buildings dating from the early 18th century – combines traditional Mallorcan architectural features with luxurious contemporary interiors and original works of art. Amenities include heating/air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, tea- and coffee-making facilities, satellite TV and DVD player. One room is a suite, with private terrace and Nespresso machine, and there’s also a junior suite. Suite bathroom at Petit Hotel Son Arnau The proprietors/hosts are passionate cooks and prepare dinner Thursday to Sunday nights, using seasonal local produce – some from the hotel’s grounds. Guests have use of terraces, an outdoor bar and infinity pool with panoramic island views. Secure bike storage is available for cyclists taking advantage of the area’s excellent cycling routes. For a luxury city break in cosmopolitan Palma de Mallorca, a holiday with easy access to a marina and choice of beaches, or a get-away-from-it-all stay in authentic rural Mallorca, the island offers even more choice this year.
