Top 5 luxury safari breakfasts

Everyone loves breakfast when you’re on holiday – what could be better than having perfectly poached eggs produced for you every morning, followed by delicious fresh tropical fruit and home made muffins. The breakfasts on any luxury safari are bound to wow you and certainly set you up for the day ahead. Often they are also a welcome reward for an early start out in the bush, game viewing to your hearts content. There are however a few breakfasts which are worth a mention. 1. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Northern Tanzania This famous lodge sits on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and the views couldn’t be better. This huge crater is absolutely stunning and comes complete with a lake and forested escarpments, which rise up before you. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is extremely luxurious and therefore the standard of breakfast matches that – in short it’s completely delicious. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge 2. Beho Beho, Southern Tanzania Now we hope we don’t ruin the surprise for you here but Beho Beho often treat guests to a surprise bush breakfast on the banks of Lake Tagalala – the lake known for having the highest density of crocodiles anywhere in Africa. 3. Saruni Samburu, Northern Kenya Here it is not only the views which are completely breathtaking but the sheer array of delights on offer for breakfast here is very spoiling. The excellent chefs produce everything from pancakes, to fruit, to poached eggs or home made muesli. All of this usually follows a wonderful game drive in Samburu National Park watching elephants and other big game. Saruni Samburu 4. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya Lewa is one of the best places in Africa to see rhino, this makes their bush breakfasts very exciting, not least because your Masai chef is also producing yur breakfast from what looks like a simple fire on the ground. The perfectly cooked eggs and bacon which is produced from said fire is quite magical. 5.  Uncharted Africa’s Mobile Safari, Botswana The special thing about this breakfast is that you will be in the middle of nowhere, in one of the most incredible private camps in all of Africa, which private staff waiting on you hand and foot, usually with views of local waterholes and their inhabitants.   2. I agree, Adam… we were there for part of our honeymoon and it really is the most wonderful view. You could sit there all day but of course it’s also fun to go down into the crater and see what you come across up close.

  4. Great list! It’s impossible to choose just one location, Northern Kenya is stunning through, massive views make every meal amazing. The Great Rift Valley, down through Tanzania, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Glad to see East Africa make an impact on you!

  5. Sarah, you could say East Africa has made an impact on me – having worked in the safari industry for ten years, and having been in Africa over thirty five times during that period I think that’s an understatement!
