8 reasons to escape to the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui

An oasis of 42 lushly landscaped acres, the Four Seasons Koh Samui offers sweeping ocean views at every turn, a white sand beach, stand alone villas, each with its own private pool, and of course quintessentially gracious Four Seasons service. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary trip or even trying to plan a romantic escape (but still have to take the kids) the Four Seasons Koh Samui is perfect, for all these reasons: 1. The romance and elegance starts at check-in Can you say welcome drinks with a difference? Our sparkling passion fruit welcome drinks were artfully presented in the most elegant glass holder, with a purple orchid inside. And alongside, I was presented with a fragrant jasmine garland–such an incredible natural perfume. And in the background? The turquoise Gulf of Siam. Welcome drinks 2. Private white sand beach The Four Seasons Koh Samui has its own private white sand beach, perfect for relaxing. But if you’re the active sort, there are plenty of beach and water sports to keep you busy. Kayaks, a hobie cat, boogie boards, stand up paddle boards, and snorkeling equipment are all available on a complimentary basis. There’s also beach ping pong and beach volleyball if you prefer to stay on land. White sand beach 3. Your own private infinity pool While there’s a pool by the beach, you and your loved one can luxuriate in your own private infinity pool, since each villa has its own, along with a spacious wooden deck, daybed, marble table and two chairs in the shade, and two sun lounges. Don’t wish to be disturbed? Just press the button and staff will be alerted not to service your room. Have the kids with you? What a relief that their splashing and water gun fights won’t both any other guests! Private infinity pool 4. Turn down service with a difference We came back from dinner to not only find our villa straightened up and bed turned down, but a whole coconut shell, where, nestled inside, were utterly delicious homemade coconut macarons. But in addition, the thoughtful housekeeping staff had noticed that my computer screen was a bit dusty, and provided me with screen cleaning solution and soft microfiber cloth! Now that’s attention to detail. Computer screen cleaning kit 5. The Four Seasons bed There’s really nothing quite as comfortable as a Four Seasons Bed. We stayed at a couple of other luxury hotels on Koh Samui, including one that heavily markets its bed, but it just doesn’t compare to the Four Seasons bed. And after all, what’s a vacation without plenty of dreamy sleep and not wanting to get out of bed? Four Seasons bed 6. Delectable dining If there’s something worth eventually getting out of bed for, it’s the Four Seasons Koh Samui breakfast buffet. In addition to an array of fresh local fruit, egg and griddle specialties cooked to order, Asian breakfast options, cereals, homemade yogurts, tea and espresso drinks, there’s the best pastry selection I’ve seen at an Asian resort. We especially enjoyed a fried pastry filled with dark chocolate cream, but there were also delicious doughnuts, croissants, cakes and other treats on offer. And the fresh squeezed juice of the day, an orange, passion fruit and raspberry blend, was addictive. Breakfast buffet Thai food lovers shouldn’t miss Koh Thai Kitchen, both for its gorgeous views and for authentic Thai specialties made with the highest quality ingredients, such as Larb Tuna with Kao Nieu (sticky rice), Massaman Nua (slow cooked wagyu beef cheek in cardamom infused southern curry), Phad Pak Boong (wok-fried morning glory with garlic and chili) and many others. 7. Let kids be kids… at the complimentary Kids Club The top luxury resorts tend to attract not only honeymooners and couples, but also families. Fortunately, the Four Seasons Koh Samui manages to delight both groups, thanks to the incredible privacy of the villas (you don’t see or hear your neighbors, given the space between villas) and the complimentary Kids for All Seasons Club, which is located under the resort’s air-conditioned gym during the heat of the day, and at the beach during the morning. From batik painting to coconut bowling to cookie decorating, the kids are kept busy and entertained, while parents (and other guests) are able to relax in peace. Free Kids Club 8. Soothe sore muscles at the spa If your muscles have become painfully knotted, either from the long flight or from some strenuous watersports, make your way to the Spa. I can personally vouch for the Siam Fusion Massage, which began with traditional Thai foot washing, then included acupressure, warm compresses of fragrant lemongrass, ginger, prai (related to ginger) and camphor to relax the muscles before a deep pressure massage. Spa While I enjoyed the privacy of a stand alone spa villa, it’s also possible to enjoy massages alone or as a couple at the Beach Spa, in the shade of palm trees and with fresh ocean breezes.
