Asia’s top 7 alternative suites

Booking a Presidential suite is the ultimate in luxury, for those that can afford it. But suites at a level or two below the Presidential suite often offer a staggering array of luxuries, from oversized space to private terraces to personalised service, at a (relative) fraction of the Presidential suite cost. Check out these alternative suite options from around Asia: Tree House Villa, Shangri-la Boracay, Philippines This two-level accomodation mixes rustic jungle charm with some of the most spectacular sweeping ocean views found in the Philippines. Offering a private outdoor jacuzzi in the balcony/outdoor deck, personalised butler service and 2,325-square-foot of luxury, the Tree House Villas are discrete lofts in the hillside, providing the ultimate in privacy. Tree House Villa - Shangri-la Boracay Grand Water Villa, One&Only Reethi Rah, Maldives Maldives evokes visions of overwater villas. So how do you pick the best one? Size is an important factor, and a private pool is paramount: the Grand Water Villa at One&Only Reethi Rah has both (and two of the latter!). Measuring a total of just over 2,500 square feet, the Grand Water Villa  comprises 300-square-foot of outdoor living space with two private pools, including a sizeable infinity pool that (seemingly) meets the coral blue waters just below. Grand Water Villa - One & Only Reethi Rah Maldives Conrad Royal Oceanview Pool Villa, Conrad Koh Samui, Thailand With space aplenty, Koh Samui has a number of options that provide a large space and a picturesque seaview. But Conrad Koh Samui‘s Royal Oceanview Pool Villa is not only oversized (4,600+ square feet), but has a 22.5 metre long infinity pool, a manicured outdoor viewing lawn, a fully stocked kitchen and can also arrange for a private chef. Its highlight is its ability to make it a two-bedroom space by connecting to the one bedroom waterfront villa, if also booked simultaneously. Conrad Royal Oceanview Pool Villa - Conrad Koh Saumi Indrakila Suite, Amankila, Bali, Indonesia The dramatic setting of Amankila – perched on a hillside just a stone’s thrown away from the sea, against the backdrop of the rising Mount Agung – is perfectly complemented by its signature three-tiered swimming pool. But with a stay at this suite, you won’t have to visit the common pool. Named after the green hill hosting the sprawling resort of Amankila, this suite has its own lounging bale and a private pool, perfect for in-suite outdoor dining and barbecues. Indrakila Suite - Amankila - Bali CEO Suite, InterContinental Hong Kong, Hong Kong In a list dominated by resorts where space is plenty, it is odd to see a suite from a city known for its high density. But the 5,000-square-foot CEO Suite at the InterContinental Hong Kong is larger than most suites, and even larger than some presidential suites! One of the hotel’s three signature suites, the suite features a full service bar, an intimate outdoor terrace with jacuzzi, as well as a personal meeting/multifunctional room for business or private dinners. CEO Suite - InterContinental Hong Kong Upper Suites, The Upper House, Hong Kong While relatively smaller in size at 1,230 square feet, the hotel is a journey towards peace in otherwise muddled Hong Kong. The stunning Andre Fu-designed suites, with a very spacious living space perfect for inviting guests, a bedroom and a rather generous 400-square-foot spa-inspired bathroom – all with city or harbour views – are expertly outfitted with bespoke furnishings in soft but warm colours. The bathroom, with its limestone-clad freestanding tub (and TV) overlooking the city and harbour is particularly noteworthy. Upper Suite - Upper House - Hong Kong Duplex Suites, The Peninsula, Bangkok Like the two contenders from Hong Kong, the Duplex Suite at The Peninsula exudes classic luxury in the otherwise chaotic city of Bangkok. The 3,500-square-foot suite is best described as ‘mansion-like’, with a high-ceilinged sitting room, disturbed only by the balcony inside the suite. Replete with private landscaped terraces and a whirlpool, the classic luxury theme shines through with its dark paneling, rich fabrics, antiques and artwork, and (naturally) private studies. 1. I like also the Presidential Suite of the Banyan Tree Bangkok which is really surprising and one of the best “Top of the Top” suite of the city.
