A must-visit for any luxury safari wishlist

We have been lucky enough to visit some of Africa’s most luxurious and unique camps and lodges – in fact, you’d be hard pushed to find one that we haven’t been to. One that should be on everyone’s wishlist is Chitwa Chitwa in the Sabi Sands and here are 5 reasons why you should consider visiting yourself: That famous dam When looking into Chitwa Chitwa on the internet one can see that there is a dam right in front of camp. What you cannot see from the website is just how magical this truly is. All of the rooms are built on raised platforms with huge private decks set up with sun loungers and sofas so you can enjoy the view. The dam laps at the bottom of your deck and on the far side of the dam large herds of elephant, baby hippos and huge numbers of other game species are a plenty. The location Chitwa Chitwa is based in the Northern Sabi Sands which is slightly less densely populated than the South – meaning you see even fewer vehicles than in other parts. Chitwa also has access to a large open area of plains, something which is very unusual in South Africa – a country mostly (with the exception of certain areas) made up of quite thick bush. The food The food is sensational – South Africa is famous for having some of the best food in the world and whilst on safari at Chitwa you will not be disappointed. Everything from the bitings before dinner to the deserts would rival a London restaurant, most of it’s actually better due to the quality of the fresh produce you can get in South Africa. The rooms Chitwa Chitwa is owned by one of South Africa’s most famous artists and this really comes across. The interiors are quirky and unique and every single room is completely different. The main area is modern and comfortable – with a huge dining table overlooking the dam, completely with hippo skull as the centre piece. The rooms are all enormous and very opulent. The staff Never have I felt so engulfed into a camp family before – all of the staff at luxury camps and lodges are very welcoming, but the Chitwa Chitwa family is second to none and you certainly make friends for life at this inspirational place. And even though we’ve only done five points, don’t forget the exceptional safari guides, the unrivalled game viewing, and the conservation and community trusts funded by Chitwa and the Spa.
