4 of America’s strangest restaurants

America is notorious for doing everything bigger and better than anywhere else in the world, but sometimes they also do things stranger. From restaurants which are buried underground to others that require a password to dine in, there are a variety of wonderful and whacky culinary offerings for you to feast on. Whether you are in the mood for a burger that could potentially give you a heart attack, or prefer to enjoy your meals whilst pretending to be part of the CIA, America has got you covered. So, if you fancy eating somewhere different or you’re feeling adventurous, then check out our list of the strangest restaurants in America. The Safe House, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Safe House is a restaurant that pays homage to espionage. Its walls are lined with spy memorabilia, and diners even require a password to enter the building (hint: check the website’s FAQ!). The Safe House Once inside, you’ll feel as if you are in a concealed bunker; there are secret passageways and nifty shoe telephones, and the themed waiters give the impression of working for the CIA. As you wait for your food, you’ll be able to gaze around the restaurant and admire the various spy equipment which has been collected over the years. The food is classic American fare, with broiled steak and baked potato a favourite with the regulars. The Airplane Restaurant, Colorado Springs, Colorado Elevate your culinary experience at the Airplane Restaurant, located in Colorado Springs. The owners renovated a decommissioned 1953 Boeing KC-97 military plane, transforming it into a kitsch restaurant. The Airplane Restaurant Booths line the old aircraft’s interior, with a bar furnishing the space. As you sit down, you’ll find aviation memorabilia decorating the walls, giving this restaurant a very authentic atmosphere. Naturally, the menu is a series of aviation puns, from the Barrel Rolls to the Air Tower Nachos. Heart Attack Grill, Las Vegas, Nevada Gluttony is the name of the game at the Heart Attack Grill, where people over 350lbs eat for free and calories are amassed like bonus points. Take your pick from burgers which come loaded with four patties to unlimited fries cooked in lard, all washed down with butterfat milkshakes or full-sugar Coke. Heart Attack Grill You might be interested to know that if you’re able to finish the whopping 8000-calories Quadruple Bypass Burger, then one of the nurse-clad waitresses will wheel you out to your car. The Cave, Richland, Missouri Judging by the name, you might have guessed this restaurant is located belowground. In fact, it’s the only restaurant in America which is situated in a cave, thus making it an entirely unique dining venue! The Cave Serving classic American-Italian fare, including burgers, seafood and pasta, the Cave is an atmospheric restaurant where guests won’t be able to resist marvelling at the natural surroundings. There’s even a waterfall and fish pond to feast your eyes on. The Cave was originally a dance hall in the 1920s, but converted into a restaurant later on. There is a campsite above it, where people can still rent cabins. Matthew Coe is Online Marketing Manager for Wanderforth. 1. What great restaurant suggestions. The Heart Attack Grill is a restaurant which could only be in America. I am intrigued by The Safe House and would love to visit that if I am in Milwaukee. I love unusual restaurants. There is one in my area which has a 50s & 60s theme. The whole restaurant is filled with theme surroundings. The waiters and waitresses are dressed accordingly and really interact with the customers. They will sit down at the table with you as if they are part of your group and discuss what you will have to eat. They play little jokes on you like maybe throwing a handful of straws at you. I hope you find some more of these type of restaurants and post them in future blogs. Thanks again for some great info.
