  1. What a difficult,if not impossible choice. There are so many spectacular wineries to visit, each with a unique offering. Some of my favourites are La Motte, De Morgenzon, Vergelegen, Black Oystercatcher, Vriesenhof,Bouchard-Finlayson and Creation wines. What makes the South African wine tourism experience special is the quality of the wines, the beautiful scenery and historical setting and the friendliness of the owners and staff.

  2. I too loved La Motte – their restaurant is absolutely delicious. Another one of my favorites is Delaire. Sitting outside on the tables, viewing the statuaries, having a wine tasting with a new glass for every wine – heaven

  3. thank you for sharing this list! I attended a wine tasting last year where wines from South Africa were highlighted. I had not been very familiar but after that tasting, a trip to South Africa was on my list. I was very impressed with the wines!

  4. I will be adding these wineries to my “to visit list” for South Africa! I’ve been told it’s a fabulous place to visit and that the wines are exquisite. Thanks for the tips!

  5. Wow, South Africa has a lot of wineries. I guess the weather is perfect for growing the Pinotage which is unique to the country. However, I’m not a fan of reds as I don’t like the feel of tannins in my mouth. I like smoother taste of whites. Tokara Estates sounds amazing as they also make olive oil which I use a lot of to cook. I would like to know how they are made as well just to satisfy my curiousity and for additional stories around the dinner table.
