Canada Day 2017

Earlier this month, on 1st July, Canada celebrated the most important day of its calendar year – Canada Day! Fantastic celebrations took place, lighting the country up with energy and enthusiasm for the occasion, particularly in anticipation for CanadaÂ’s 150th birthday next year. With so many activities and festivities taking place, youÂ’ll be spoilt for choice in the main East Coast cities of Ottawa, Quebec and Toronto. Enjoy the finest attractions and sophisticated events taking place next year as Canada becomes the perfect 2017 holiday destination. Ottawa Proudly named the capital city of Canada, Ottawa will take centre stage next year in celebrating CanadaÂ’s tremendous milestone. Expect a combination of national celebrations and festivals as locals gather together throughout the twelve months, leaving you with the most memorable Canadian experience. Celebrate in style at the iconic Shaw Centre where you can sample a delicious Canadian cuisine prepared by some of CanadaÂ’s top chefs against the backdrop of the finest live music and theatre performances. The magical, crystalline-glass façade at the Shaw Centre overlooks downtown Ottawa, making it the perfect place to watch the breath-taking fireworks as they light up OttawaÂ’s stunning architecture. In anticipation of three big hockey milestones – the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup, the centennial of the National Hockey League and the Ottawa SenatorÂ’s 25th hockey season – the Stanley Cup will offer a once in a lifetime sporting experience, where you can bear witness to the top sports athletes in the world. Whether it is a soirée with guest speakers and entertainment inside the Canadian Museum of History, having your picture taken with the Stanley Cup inside the Aberdeen Pavilion, or watching theatrical and musical performances by top talent, these high calibre events will leave you wanting more! And if this isnÂ’t enough, ‘La MachineÂ’ (the production company behind a giant mechanical dragon and spider) will be invading the streets of Ottawa with its innovative urban theatre performance. Quebec City DonÂ’t miss out on Canada Day celebrations taking place in Quebec City next year; be a part of them! Watch more than forty stunning Tall ships raise their flags and weigh anchor in Quebec City, as they participate in a five month transatlantic race that will cover 7,000 nautical miles. If you fancy getting on board with the Rendezvous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta, take a cruise along the Gulf of St. Lawrence for a truly nautical experience. If youÂ’re wondering what else to expect next year, this yearÂ’s activities might give you a clue. The iconic Fairmont Château Frontenac, located inside the walls of Old Quebec, indulged holiday goers with their specially-baked Canada Day cake topped with maple syrup. In 2017 take the chance to dine inside the multimillion-dollar renaissance project that has repositioned itself as one of the worldÂ’s leading luxury hotels. Fairmont Château FrontenacÂ’s delightful setting mixes the enchanting past with modern innovations, creating the perfect location for such a historic celebration. This year, visitors witnessed the official flag-raising ceremony by the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment on the Dufferin Terrace and partook in the Mass of Thanksgiving at the stunning Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec. No matter how you decide to spend your time celebrating CanadaÂ’s 150th birthday, you are bound to have a wonderful time. Toronto As CanadaÂ’s most populous city, Toronto will be at the forefront of the cultural celebrations when the country commemorates its people, places and events, marking the 150-year history of Toronto and Canada between 1867 and 2017. The events will honour the countryÂ’s symbol and song; ‘The Maple Leaf ForeverÂ’, along with the battle of Vimy Ridge and the struggle for responsible government en route to Confederation. Visit the city to enjoy fascinating lectures, exhibits and musical shows as part of TorontoÂ’s ‘Cultural HotspotÂ’ initiative that includes a citywide participatory public art project. Head to Nathan Phillips Square and check out the musical talent from all of CanadaÂ’s provinces and territories, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists, as well as prestigious international performers. Whether you prefer hip hop, indie rock, electronic, country or global sounds, you wonÂ’t be disappointed as the atmosphere will thrive off energy and enthusiasm. Toronto will splash an amazing $8.5 million in celebrations, so it is not one to miss! Particular highlights include the four-day Canada Day festival with live music in front of City Hall, the Cavalcade of Lights in November and TorontoÂ’s lavish New YearÂ’s Eve Party. Promising the most unforgettable experience for all ages, you can immerse yourself in the enjoyable festivities and also learn about the history and culture of Canada. So if you are planning a trip to Canada, 2017 is your year to visit! Join in the fun and be a part of the special celebrations as they make a landmark in Canadian history. Try and catch the multimedia dome village SESQUI that will travel across Canada, and take a look inside the immersive and interactive domes to “see” the country. 1. Ugh! I totally want to go to Canada, this awesome post by you is totally not helping! I’ve always wanted to go to Toronto, actually had NO clue about Old Quebec. Just by seeing the photo you posted… Totally now preferring to stay in Old Quebec and visiting it now instead of Toronto!

  2. Like so many countries Canada has used fireworks as part of a national celebration. Wherever they are used they make an excellent conclusion to the celebration

  3. I have never been to Canada. Would love to be there for their 150 years young celebrations. Quebec City looks great and so does Toronto.

  4. Canada. A beautiful and diverse country that offers so many flavours. Toronto offers so many events. With summer here, be sure to explore events like Caribana, Taste of the Danforth and the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE).

Every visitor to Toronto should also check out the famous CN Tower, RipleyÂ’s Aquarium, Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma and either Toronto Zoo OR Ontario Science Centre using Toronto City Pass where you can save up to 43% off the regular prices and skip ticket lines!
    Come to Toronto!
