7 alternative experiences on 7 exclusive Greek islands

When vacationers think of Greece, the 3 “S’s” pop up in their heads: sea, sun and sand. Those are the top 3 reasons Greece is so appealing to all those who want to relax in the country where hospitality is a necessity and gastronomy is unbeatable. However, are those 3 “S’s” enough though? Can a traveler visit a stunning country knowing that there are limitations of experiences? Luckily Greece and its hundreds of inhabitant islands are up to speed and keeping up with all the latest travel trends. Nowadays, travelers are keen on experiencing the authentic and original lifestyle of a destination in combination with unique experiences. The memories that they will create from the experiences will be cherished for a lifetime. This article will feature 7 alternative experiences on 7 lesser-known Greek islands of the Aegean Sea. Let’s get started! Beekeeping and honey cooking on Karpathos Island The queen bee is a true leader who is in charge of and organizes any bee society. This experience is the Queen of all experiences because not only will you learn and observe how honey is collected and stored, but you will actually put on the safety suits and do it yourself. Perhaps the best part of this truly memorable experience is that you will prepare local traditional dishes with the honey you have personally collected from the beehive. Stargazing on Ikaria Island Your 4×4 vehicle will be parked at the highest point of the Ikarian mountain and a Celestron NexStar telescope will be your eyes for a night! With its help, you will observe the Cosmos like never before, you will connect with the stars, planets our entire universe surrounded by a magical setting. Dare to step outside of the fast-paced digital world and enter a galaxy that is captivating and enchanting. Bird watching on Tilos Island An island tucked in the Aegean Sea, Tilos, is ideal for all the birdwatchers out there that are interested in experiencing an alternative island. The municipality of Tilos has banned all forms of hunting on the island; therefore, the rare bird species are countless. Flying all over the island, it is fairly easy to catch a glimpse of the birds and add them to your list. Whether you are just sitting on the balcony of your hotel having breakfast or hiking up a path have your camera picture-ready and keep an eye out for them! Diving on Amorgos Island The sea-world is simply fascinating to read about and to hear stories of. It is not common for people to say that Loggerhead turtles and Mediterranean Monk seals were swimming pass them while they were exploring sea caves and shipwrecks. The kingdom of the sea is a fantasy for some but just imagine that you could be the one telling those stories! Plus, it is not a coincidence that the 1988 movie The Big Blue that was about free divers, starring Jean Reno and Rosanna Arquette, was filmed on Amorgos Island… Off-road motorcycling on Milos Island Milos Island is well known for its vast number of scenic beaches, views and colorful villages. Every visitor has taken pictures and has swam in the crystal blue waters, but has every visitor climbed on a motorcycle and has tackled the off-road routes of Milos? Most probably not! It is the most offbeat and unconventional way to experience Milos creating a unique yet unforgettable sensation. Helicopter tour over Astypalea Island Pop a bottle of champagne up in the air in a luxury spacious helicopter while enjoying the marvelous views of the charming island of Astypalea. The waters will be shimmering from above; maybe you will even spot a dolphin or two “performing” their fun tricks in the waters.  The bright white houses leading up to the castle will be as clear as day and all you have to do is to enjoy the ride. There is no need for a drone, when you are on a helicopter! Rock climbing on Kalymnos Island Dangling from cliffs trying to climb to the top is only for those who seek adventure and who strive for thrilling holiday fun. Tap into your inner strength and courageously yet safely mount those rocks. If you want to be on top, Kalymnos Island is surly your type of island! 1. Beekeeping sounds super neat George. Always fascinated me. I would be down for that as we are doing a house sit soon with hives, where we are tending to bees. A bee sit LOL. I love that bird too; saw him in a few places, when visiting Thailand. He almost looks prehistoric when you see him from a distance. I forget the type of bird but know he finds his home throughout the Middle East and SE Asia.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  2. Sure, you can easily do all the typical activities while on the Greek islands, such as sit at the beach and visit the major tourist sites. However, there is so much more to Greece than that! These suggestions are not only unique, but they help you see the country in a new way.
