Fresh snow in the French Alps – top tips for skiing in poor visibility

We are now well into this winter season and skiers and snowboarders alike have enjoyed exceptional snow conditions. We have experienced over 50cm of fresh snow across the French Alps in the last week, making the already fantastic piste conditions even better and off piste is a powder playground. It looks to continue snowing for the next few days, this means that whilst conditions are amazing it does restrict your visibility on the mountain. Here are some top tips for to help you make the most of your holiday before the sun returns later this week.
  1. Goggles – these are a must, they give you improved definition in poor light and help you see the contrast of the terrain
  2. Tree lined routes – the trees give you contrast to the white out conditions and enable you to have a better idea of the route down
  3. Piste markers – these are used to mark the edges of the piste and should be used to help guide you down the mountain
Whilst everyone hopes for blue sky conditions these few tips will help you maximise your enjoyment while we continue to benefit from these snowy conditions. It is also a good opportunity to make the most of the fabulous piste side restaurants and cafes, perfect for regular stops for a hot chocolate or a vin chaud to keep you toasty in these wintry conditions before you head back to your luxury chalet or hotel.
