Africa: home and holiday to celebrities

Africa is a hot spot for a wealth of celebrities, whether they were born on the continent or simply decided to visit on their holidays. Thanks to the huge amount of luxury breaks on offer and the experiences that only Africa can provide, a number of famous faces frequently visit this fantastic location. Here are just a few of the stars that visit Africa on a regular basis: U.S. President Barack Obama A man who really needs no introduction, needless to say you probably won’t get the same reception to Africa as Obama does. Not only has he attended several massively important political meetings while in Africa, but it is also the president’s ancestral homeland of Kenya, as this is where his father was born. During the term of his Presidency, he’s visited Africa four times and has managed to take in many of the joys and experiences that Kenya and Ethiopia have to offer. Prince William and Kate Middleton Many people may not be aware of this, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge actually got engaged while on a safari trip to Kenya. The breath taking foothills of Mount Kenya provided an extremely romantic back drop for the proposal, although this location also has a more sentimental meaning for the couple: Kenya was the place where his grandmother found out she was to be Queen. You too can visit Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and stay in the same places as the royal couple. Needless to say, this is a royally romantic location that’s perfect for couples who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle, while enjoying a stunning safari. Romantic view Charlize Theron This Hollywood actress, producer and fashion model was born and raised in South Africa and regularly comes back to her homeland and does a lot of work within Africa. She recently did a tour of Africa as part of the Africa Outreach Project, where she met local people all across the continent and took in many of the wonderful sights that Africa has to offer. Fancy visiting her native South Africa for yourself? Brad Pitt If you were to visit the Shamwari Game Reserve and flick through the guestbook, you may be lucky enough to spot a rave review from Hollywood A-lister, Brad Pitt. This private reserve is a hot spot for celebrities for good reason, it’s secluded, luxurious and offers an exquisite opportunity to view the big game. Tiger Woods has also famously stayed in this South African game reserve, so you really will be in with an all-star list if you’re a guest here. Romantic terrace view Oprah Winfrey In 2013 American TV sensation, Oprah, visited Tanzania for a unique Serengeti safari. Staying at the Singita Grumeti Game Reserve, Oprah was as close to nature as you can get while still being able to relax in absolute luxury. There’s everything from big game spotting opportunities, through to spa breaks and gourmet food – definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a luxury safari fit for the Queen of America. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Africa isn’t just a fantastic location for royals to be engaged and celebrities to holiday, it is also a popular honeymoon destination. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel made their way to the Singita Faru Faru Lodge in Tanzania for their safari honeymoon in 2012. This outstanding resort provides great access to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and the opportunity to see the Big Five in their natural environment. 1. Can anyone advise when would be the best time of year to go on an African wildlife safari, please? My Mum and Dad have always wanted to go and my sister and I are planning a trip for their Silver Wedding Anniversary. They are retired, so pretty flexible where times are concerned.

  2. It’s nice to know some of Hollywood’s A-list stars go to Africa for holidays. I’ve always imagined them going to beach destinations or somewhere in Europe for skiing in winter. I get that it’s the privacy and luxury that appeals to them. Being in the public eye most of the time, I’m sure they’d want to take a break from that for a while. I wonder if there’s also a list of unique Asian destinations celebrities go to on a holiday. That would be interesting to read.

  3. Africa is a popular honeymoon destination in addition to being a great place for royals to be engaged and celebrities to vacation. Thanks for listing the holiday places in Africa.

  4. It’s fascinating to learn that many Hollywood A-list stars choose Africa as their holiday destination. While I’ve often imagined them opting for beach getaways or skiing in Europe during winter, I can understand why the allure of privacy and luxury draws them to Africa. After being constantly in the public eye, it’s only natural for celebrities to seek a break from the limelight. I’m curious to discover a list of unique Asian destinations that celebrities frequent for their vacations. It would be an intriguing read indeed.
