Wellness, sustainability and luxury living in the Maldives

These resorts all offer their own blend of wellness, sustainability and luxury living in the Maldives, making them excellent options for your next Indian Ocean adventure. Combining these concepts is the perfect way to ensure that we look after our own health and well being, whilst looking after the health and well being of our planet at the very same time. Add a generous slice of luxury living in the Maldives to this ‘feel-good’ combination and you’ve got all of the ingredients for the ultimate vacation.

Amilla Maldives Resort & Residences

Everywhere you look at the peerless Amilla Maldives Resort & Residences, you are presented with sustainability and wellness initiatives. Their excellent ‘Wellness your Way’ approach is omnipresent across resort menus, ensuring that a multitude of culinary and dietary requirements are catered for. Dishes featuring fruits and vegetables from the extensive and ever expanding organic gardens (and mushrooms from ‘The Pentagon’ mushroom hut) ensure that ‘zero-miles ingredients’ are at the fore wherever possible.

Head to Javvu Spa for indulgent treatments, knowing that the coconut oils and scrubs are 100% natural, and that your post-treatment refreshments will feature dehydrated fruits, coconut green tea and activated almonds for that extra wellness factor. The oils and scrubs are created on-site, in the heart of this verdant Maldivian island, at ‘The Nut. This is a brand new facility where every element of the coconut is used and utilised in not only the spa, but in the kitchens too. They even break down the husks to make mulch for the organic gardens and this cycle of natural goodness is the perfect example of what Amilla Maldives are striving to achieve. Long may it continue.

For families and friends who want next level luxury living and perfect privacy on their vacation, the selection of four, six and eight bedroom residences at Amilla Resort & Residences offers exactly that (and so much more). Each of these these vast private sanctuaries have unparalleled ocean views, whilst the Eight Bedroom Residence boasts more than 1000 square metres of internal space and two swimming pools with direct beach access ensuring that you will quite simply never want to leave.

Sustainability can be addressed in many different ways and Dive Butler International, who operate the dive centre at Amilla Maldives, are a shining light when it comes to respecting the environment. Their approach to the pristine oceans that surround Amilla Maldives is one of ultimate respect, which is only right considering that Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to Hanifaru Bay, the largest manta feeding ground in the world. Promoting the protection, conservation and sustainability of our environment and more specifically the marine environment, they lead from the front in many different ways to ensure that we are all accountable for our actions.

LUX* South Ari Atoll

With extensive vegan, plant based and vegetarian ‘Keen on Green’ dishes on every menu, nutritious and delicious food is championed at LUX* South Ari Atoll. So much so, that the ‘Keen on Green’ section is first and foremost on each menu for everyone to see on page one and not tucked away near the back. We loved this approach as it not only means that vegan and plant based food loving guests can find their favourites easily but it introduces these creative culinary offerings to everyone, which of course has multiple benefits.

Trust us when we say that the approach to wellness doesn’t end in the restaurants, head to the dreamy LUX* Me spa to be spritzed with a divine orange mist upon arrival before heading to one of their luxurious overwater spa suites for the treatment of your choice. It’s hard to think of a more jaw dropping location to be pampered, and we are happy to say that the treatments lived up to their illustrious surroundings.

When staying at LUX* South Ari Atoll, select their signature LUX* Villa which is located at the end of the jetty, ensuring maximum privacy during your stay and offering mesmerising sunset views from the infinity pool. In addition to the unobstructed Indian Ocean vistas, guests staying in the spacious Presidential Suite can enjoy their own butler, a private buggy, a selection of premium wines and spirits, complimentary yoga sessions and a private movie screening on the LUX* Villa Terrace during their stay.

Sustainability initiatives at LUX* South Ari Atoll include the development and installation of the world’s largest floating solar system. This ground breaking project is all part of their pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions whilst in turn respecting the environment. Their commitment to “good governance, social responsibility and respect for environmental standards” also includes an ongoing program of coral reef restoration, another effort to protect and preserve the fragile ocean eco system in the Maldives.

Cora Cora Maldives

Cora Cora Maldives is one of the newest resorts in the Maldives, opening towards the end of 2021. In line with their commitment to offering creative plant based food across the resort, MOKSHA Cuisine was introduced as part of their wider MOKSHA Spa concept. From elegant Japanese vegan cuisine at Teien to flavour packed pan-Asian plant based creations at Ginger Moon, the culinary team at Cora Cora have got you covered. And when you want to indulge, they’ve got you covered too with Beyond Meat burgers from Tazäa or decadent vegan chocolate cake from My Coffee.

The MOKSHA Spa offers an extensive menu of treatments alongside daily yoga classes and a 24 hour fitness centre. We loved the vegan friendly amenities from Comfort Zone that were available and we also loved the over water spa suites. Not just because our treatments were expertly delivered but there was a glass floor below your bed, so you could observe the sub aqua seascape during your chosen massage.

For privacy, luxury and a whole lot of fun at Cora Cora Maldives select the Two Bedroom Lagoon Pool Villa with Slide. The prime position at the end of the pier offers unique views from each and every room and the ultimate in privacy with only the ocean as your neighbour. This self proclaimed ‘full-on family party palace’ is the perfect choice for a family who enjoy the finer things in life combined with a whole lot of fun. The only choice you need to make at the start of each day is whether you start your morning swim elegantly from your private steps or enter with slightly less grace but lots more fun from your private slide!

Respecting the history of the Maldives is something that Cora Cora treat with the upmost importance. Introducing their guests to the rich history of this diverse region through the first ever resort island museum in the Maldives has allowed them to share their knowledge and understanding. The museum features artefacts from Maamigili island itself as well as further afield and offers a truly unique guest experience. Multiple eco conscious initiatives are practiced at Cora Cora so you certainly won’t find any single use plastic or bathroom amenities as wherever possible, reusable, refillable and planet friendly alternatives are used.

It’s never too late to make positive changes to how we live and as tourists it’s our responsibility to travel in a way that respects our health and respects our planet. Visit these luxury resorts in the Maldives; there has never been a better time to join the growing number of people getting a ‘vacation feel-good factor’ from the wellness and sustainability practices these resorts most definitely deliver.
