Photograph of the week: Tattoo artist in French Polynesia

Roonui is one of the leading tattoo artists in French Polynesia. Tattooing is a traditional Polynesian art form, and Roonui wears his art as well as creates it. Photographer Bob Krist tells me he was one of the most graceful and dignified people to ever be in front of his lens, and his self-possession in front of the camera was to a degree that he’s rarely witnessed outside of experienced actors and performers.
