Photograph of the week: Luxury yacht in Antarctica

This photo depicts the luxury expedition yacht Hanse Explorer ‘docked’ for the night in the fast ice of Antarctica. The yacht had just come through the Gullet (a notoriously icy and difficult passage) and had broken into Marguerite Bay – well below the Antarctic Circle.  At 2am, the expedition leader saw an injured seal on the ice and went out to photograph it. Turning around, he took this photograph of the yacht bathed in the sunset – and sunrise – as they are one and the same at that latitude and time of year.
