Photograph of the week: Yangshuo sunset

This mesmerising picture was taken in a remote corner of China, a half hour drive from the mountainous town of Yangshuo in Guangxi, a place that is truly far away from the beaten-track. The locals of Yangshuo are welcoming and infectiously cheerful, which is perhaps no surprise given the incredible scenery they wake up, work and fall asleep to.

Yangshuo sunset

Limestone mountains tower over the Li River and the fishermen who work the waters tirelessly still manage heart-warming grins when you pass them in the evenings. The serenity and beauty of this isolated spot can leave you awe-struck, this is authentic China as it should be experienced. Staying at the Yangshuo Secret Garden, and a show by Liu Sanjie with the setting sun as the backdrop only adds to the authenticity, fuelling the belief that only infinite pleasures can come from going off the tourist trail.

Thank you to Jihane Sejai of Black Tomato for permission to re-produce the image.
