There’s nothing quite as magical as the holiday season. The snow all around, beautiful shopping districts, friends and family coming together and celebrating love, hope, and peace. It’s almost like a scene out of a movie. And with December right around the corner, now is the time to book your ideal ‘White Christmas’ destination and what better way to spend the season than in the lap of luxury?

Even though there are literally thousands of places you could be on this globe of ours, we’ve picked out four luxury hotels that would love to have you as their guest this holiday season. Each of these locations lays claim to fantastic amenities, incredible staff, and access to some of the best spas in the world. But more than that, these hotels are located in some of the most magical winter wonderland backdrops the world has to offer.

The Caledonian, Edinburgh, UK

Built in 1903, Waldorf Astoria’s Edinburgh location, the Caledonian, is a premium stay off Princes Street you won’t want to miss. This excellent luxury destination boasts features like a full-service concierge, a state of the art fitness center, an indoor pool, whirlpool, and other complementary services to take every concern off your shoulder while you’re staying here in the heart of Scotland.

With suites overlooking Edinburgh Castle and the quaint historic district, the luxury suites at the Caledonian are within walking distance of many of Edinburgh’s finest restaurants and sites, including the Royal Mile. With such an ideal location it’s easy to enjoy the scenery while also enjoying your holiday pampering.

Christmas in Edinburgh entails a lot of tradition and cheery holiday joy just down the street from your suite, including Christmas Markets for shopping, the lighting of Christmas trees all around the city, and plenty of concerts and attraction to fill your time with when you’re not enjoying your five-star stay.

The Hôtel de la Cité, Carcassonne, France

If it’s a picturesque backdrop you seek, there are few places in this world that can match the beauty and majesty of the Hôtel de la Cité, a beautiful chateau inspired luxury hotel overlooking the medieval town of Carcassonne, France. With 59 rooms & suites, a gastronomic restaurant, private parking, a spa, and a beautiful swimming pool, this Neo-Gothic designed accommodation has the perfect backdrop for a romantic holiday getaway.

With the beautiful city sprawled out beneath you, enjoy the beautiful room or suite of your choice, with everything from a quaint, one-room luxury stay to a grand bedroom with a sitting room, perfect for gathering the family together. Depending on the year, you can enjoy seeing the snow-topped turrets tower above the medieval citadel, or you can enjoy a sunny stroll through the gardens below the fantastic eatery on the terrace. Around Christmas time, Carcassonne puts on plenty of Christmas Markets, fancy meal extravaganzas, and even a fireworks display on Christmas Eve which is visible from the hotel on most occasions. Whatever the case may be, France is ready to treat you to a top-of-the-line saison de Noël.

Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, Baden-Baden, Germany

There are few views more beautiful than the cascading vistas of Germany’s Black Forest. And around Christmas time, there isn’t a better place to spend a luxurious snow-capped holiday than the Brenners Park Hotel and Spa in the town of Baden-Baden. Brenners Park has a world-class reputation for attentive staff who are at your beck and call. The private park itself faces the famous Lichtentaler Allee and opens up to a wonderful stroll on Christmas Eve. Designed by luxury hotel innovator Alfred Brenner, the hotel welcomes you with fruits and sparkling water upon your arrival to your room, as well as complimentary soft drinks from the minibar. Your stay gives you access to their private spa at Villa Stéphanie, where you can book your own personalized wellness plan that includes custom-fit meals from their in-house nutritionists. They also have a “renegade restaurant” called Fritz & Felix, which has a resounding reputation for their classic, farm-to-table comfort food.

But aside from the stellar rooms, unequivocal service, and fantastic amenities, Brenner’s park is right down the street from the Baden-Baden Christmas Market, a wonderland designed for the whole family. Enjoy local Christmas treats, shop the great stores, and take some cocoa to-go and enjoy sipping it in the foyer of the hotel as you bask in the magic, (and luxury) of the season.

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, Quebec, Canada

If there was a place to enjoy a white Christmas, it would be Canada. But you don’t have to let yourself get snowed in to enjoy the warmth of a Canadian Christmas. Instead, you can book your stay at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, a crown jewel of French Canadian luxury hotels. Centered in the heart of Old Quebec, this the iconic landmark has undergone a multimillion-dollar renaissance restoration that blends the charm of the hotel’s enchanting past with modern allure. And with the snowy North American backdrop, this hotel pulls out all the stops for the holiday season.

This season, you can enjoy the season’s greetings with the Trees of Hope Package at Le Château Frontenac. Featuring lavishly decorated Christmas trees, the hotel lights up the lobby with all event proceeds going to a local charity. Package deals include magnificent festive feasts and grand galas all for a discounted holiday rate and several culinary and beverage vouchers to spend within this winter wonderland. And at rates starting under $300 a night, this is one place you won’t want to miss seeing this Christmas.

Christmas is a very special time of year, and while there are dozens of places you can enjoy time with friends and family, these hotels offer you a premium stay in the lap of luxury. So when you book your stay this year, think about giving your loved ones the ultimate stay at a luxury hotel for Christmas. It will be a fantastic way to spend the holidays with your loved ones, we guarantee it.

There are two ways of doing Christmas.

You can battle for a parking space, fight through the supermarket and then drag your shopping home before slaving over a hot stove on Christmas morning. Then there’s the clearing up.

Or you can escape to a luxury hotel. Relax after a busy year and be pampered.

Now let me think which one should I choose?

Hello Maggie, both options have charme, however if you decide for the luxury hotel option, I hope the article is helpful to find the perfect hotel for you and your family. Let us know how you will decide….Merry Christmas!

If I’m going to travel at Christmas then I would be looking for a White Christmas. Quebec’s got the snow and that would be my choice.

Noelle is such a sweet name for a hotel. I assume it’s still open year round though, unless it’s more of a themed boutique hotel open for the winter months? While I’ve never been to Edinburgh, my friend who lives up in Scotland actually stayed at the Caledonian before while on a work trip and she said she was very impressed. She’s also more used to 3 or 4 star places that aren’t too fancy so I bet she got a shock! I know Germany seems to be quite a popular destination in the winter months, maybe in good part because of the festivals and Christmas markets. To me it feels like quite an authentic place to spend Christmas, but I’d probably want to try somewhere out of the EU for my next winter trip so maybe Canada? I’ve always like the sound of going there. I’ve never actually spent Christmas itself away from home but every year I seem to find it more and more appealing! Any excuse not to have to get stressed over house cleaning and cooking Christmas lunch ;)

Thanks for your comment Becky. Yes, Noelle Hotel in Nashville is open year around and such a nice Boutique Hotel worth visiting all year round. There are so many nice places around the world to spend the Christmas time at – even Dubai developes now a Christmas tradition with Christmas trees in the hotels even this is not something for everyone…Wishing you a merry Christmas !!

A steaming Adult Hot Chocolate for two in Nashville sounds intriguing. Am I right in guessing that there’s some chocolate liquor in there? Or something else alcoholic that gives it a kick?

Roger, This is an awesome place I accidentally stumbled up on, thanks for helping fellow folks with your great knowledge of the travel destinations. I am recently heart broken 29 years old male from the midwest of the US that is wanting to get away solo on christmas day to a warmer climate that doesn’t take 2-3 days to travel to. Looks like San Juan may be a great place but just wondering if there are other exotic places you may suggest. Appreciate your attention and time in helping me! Thank you!
