The 974 recycled containers pay homage to the site’s industrial history as well as the international dialing code for Qatar (+974). 1. The venues for this World Cup are better thought out than for many previous tournaments. As the stadiums are relatively close together fans will be able to watch more matches without having to travel too far.

  2. Impressive and thorough research. I can see a lot of English fans travelling for this one. I can see them believing that the nearly experience of the Euros may have given the squad the strength to do well in this tournament. Most people see that Gareth Southgate is a sort of manager that could shepherd his team through a big tournament.

  3. All these new hotels beg the question – what will they use these hotels be used for after the World Cup?

    1. My guess is that Qatar will try to go head to head with Dubai. Less traffic congestion, less pollution and hopefully fewer flights being pushed into stacks.

Look out for a big marketing push during the World Cup. This is their big chance to be in the world’s travel shop window.

  4. Those football fans who travel to Qatar will probably be in for a shock, especially when they see the price of alcohol.

A few years ago when we were in Abu Dhabi England were playing cricket. Some of the Barmy Army were at our hotel too. There was a lot of culture shock. On the first day of the match their taxi dropped them about 1/4 of a mile from the ground and they had to walk through the desert to get to the ground.

  5. This really is the go-to one-stop-shop for everything you need to know about getting to The World Cup. Cheers Paul!

  6. This World Cup will be a big moment for Qatar. The country is investing big to impress. Will they pass this audition when the world’s eyes are on them?

From all these new stadia and facilities it’s very apparent that they’ve splashed the cash but how will they present themselves on attitudes to diversity and human rights?

    1. Events off field will almost be as entertaining as the action on the pitch. It is all going to make for a very watchable World Cup.
