The best markets in Barcelona: Where to buy local products

Barcelona is well known for its beautiful architecture, artistic and trendy streets, and lively atmosphere. But what’s more, is the incredible gastronomy and supply of markets in the city, including one of Europe’s best food markets, La boquería. When in Barcelona, you will have access to some of the best markets where you can buy local products including food, flowers, art and even clothes.

La Boqueria

La Boqueria is an enormous public market which is located just off the famous Ramblas. This is one of Barcelona’s most foremost tourist landmarks. The boqueria serves a wide range of fresh food, including fruit, veg, fish, meat, delicious juices, empañadas, crepes and more! It’s a great place to stop by whilst you’re sight seeing in the city, pick up a bite to eat, or even visit to collect some local produce to cook up that evening! Make sure you really soak up the atmosphere here as it is a very special market. You will find plenty of nice little bars and restaurants surrounding the market for you to grab a bite to eat at, we recommend the Bar Ramblero for the best seafood dishes!

  1. It’s really worth staying in an apartment with a kitchen so that you can go shopping around the markets to plan your meals.

    1. Hi Maggie,

We completely agree, it’s important to take advantage of the fresh & delicious produce in your own cooking place. That’s why opting for an apartment can be better than staying in a hotel if you are looking to enjoy a more local experience!

  2. Barcelona really does know how to do markets. They look so much more colourful and vibrant than what we get in the UK.

  3. There’s such a difference between Barcelona markets and what I’m used to in Reading. The tomatoes are about 3 times the size and have about 5 times the flavour. And that’s just the tomatoes.

    1. Hi Jack,

Thanks for your comment. You really can notice the difference between the produce here and there. Its a shame we can’t enjoy their big tasty tomatoes all the time!
