  1. Efrat you’ve got your finger on the pulse, you are bang on trend.

I’m on my way to Budapest right now, though it’s going to take several days as I’m serenely cruising along the Danube.

Sailing into Budapest is the way to arrive in style in this grand European city.

    1. Hi Dick,

Thank you so much for your lovely comment!

And sailing into Budapest sounds absolutely incredible. . . Enjoy your trip. :)

  2. This comprehensive list of 21 family-friendly things to do at the resort is a valuable resource for planning a memorable Florida Keys vacation. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, Hawks Cay has it all. Don’t miss out on making the most of your time in paradise!

  3. It used to be that I’d think about places I wanted to for my summer holiday and then book my flights.

This year’s different. My mortgage is costing so much and everything is so expensive. I’m really going to have to think a lot more about costs than ever before.

    1. Hi Kate,

      I don’t think you’re alone here.
But interestingly, travel spending for 2023 is at its highest to date.

While affordability is a big concern for many travellers, they won’t think twice about paying for travel experiences.

Maybe it’s about finding the best travel experiences that you can afford or ones that are worth the cost to you.

PS. Thanks so much for commenting! :)

    2. There’s an interesting article out there about how it’s us baby boomers who are driving the increase in travelling spending.

Some baby boomers postponed their retirements until after pandemic. Why retire if you can’t go anywhere? Now they’re booking back to back trips as they try to catch-up.

Whilst other baby boomers are desperate to catch up on the travel they missed during the pandemic. They know that now’s their chance as in a few years time they might not have the health or mobility to get about.

    3. Hi Ivor,

      Absolutely! :)

It’s great to see baby boomers embracing travel like never before. It’s a perfect opportunity for them to enjoy their retirement and explore the world.

      Thanks so much for commenting!

  4. Air fares are riding with inflation and it would be costly to get to Hoi An. Last time I visited you could live very cheaply so it’s a good call especially for a stay of 3 or 4 weeks.

    1. Hi Piers,

Thanks for commenting. I 100% agree.

I think much of travelling affordably also comes down to finding the cheapest tickets. :)

  5. Exactly. When you’re staying somewhere with all the natural beauty of Bali you don’t have to stay anywhere fancy.

    1. Hi Angela,

I love this and I couldn’t agree with you more!

Thank you for leaving a comment! :)

  6. 100% recommend Krakow. A very interesting place with loads to do and great value food and drink. Did it last summer, had a brilliant time and said we’d like to go back soon.

    1. Hi Jez,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment.

That sounds incredible – Krakow is definitely an up-and-coming destination. . .

  7. Personally I Porto to Lisbon, it’s on a smaller scale. My preference may also have something to do with my love of port which has developed over many decades. Is there anything better than having lunch accompanied by a white port tonica at one of the great port houses running along the banks of the River Douro?

    1. Hi Roger,

After reading your comment, I can almost picture myself there. :)

And I 100% agree with you – smaller cities are usually the most charming.

    2. Probably the best thing about Porto is that it’s such a brilliant place for starting to explore the River Douro.

You can board a river cruiser, hire a car or even get a driver to give you a day’s tour.

But now I think we’re going to be heading back to talking about port again …

    3. Hi Nancy,

      Couldn’t agree with you more!

A driver would be ideal so we can take our fill of port!

  8. Haven’t had a sniff of hols for over a year. Too much work, too little money. I’ll take any of ’em!

    1. Hi Joe,

      Sorry to hear.
I don’t think you’re alone here – travelling can be super costly, and it’s tricky to find the right time to be away from work and home.

Hopefully, there’s a holiday on its way to you!

  9. What an interesting and very relevant piece. I really enjoyed reading it, probably because I’ve been to 5 of the places in the past.

If you’ve got the time and inspiration it would be nice to have a follow-up piece. “Another 10 affordable Summer …”

    1. Hi Karen,

That’s so great to hear – I hope I did those places justice! :)

      A follow-up would be fun!
Travel experiences are more important to people than ever before, and being able to do it affordably (while still enjoying all those destinations in their splendour) is as important! :)
